I looked all over the black berry forums and couldn't find a thread that was similar to my problem so I thought I'd ask you guys for help.

Here's the problem:

My pearl won't charge anymore. I plug it in my regular charger, and the one for the computer and neither work, though it does recognize my phone and start up the desktop manager when I plug it in the computer. Everything was going great and it just stopped charging. And I had just bought a rather cheap case yesterday just because it kept getting scratched up.

I wanted to know if maybe the magnet from the case could have done something to it or if it's just the battery. I hope it's not and if anyone has any suggestions in how to fix it. I really don't want to go back to my sidekick so pleassee someone help mee I'd be forever in your debt

Do you have access to another battery to test in your 8100 today, say a friend with an 8100? Or maybe visit store tomorrow?

nope, well maybe I'll see if I can go to the t-mobile store at the mall tomorrow or later today

I also agree in testing another battery. If you think it may be the case you put on, try taking it off temporarily to see if anything changes.

gotta love tmobile, they couldn't help me and didin't sell batteries. just ordered a battery and back door from seidio

got the battery today and its still not charging, what could possibly be wrong?

Your mini-usb charge port could have become damaged if the phones come under heavy shock (dropping it) or if you are somewhat violent with the charger.. and sometimes they are just defective.

This is common in Motorola phones... as they use the same type of port.

I would suggest having a Warranty Replacement issued.

but if its defective would that make it able to register as connected to the computer but not charge? that's the only thing I don't understand. if it didn't register and didn't charge then... I dunno..

but I can't get it replaced, got it on ebay =/

went to tmobile today and the guy looked at my phone. apparently it has water damage and that's his only guess why it wouldn't charge. He tried the store charger and still didn't work. So I guess now I have a 250 dollar brick =(

If it got wet and didn't get dried out properly, then that is likely the case.

I have no idea what IM talking about but did they show you where you check to see the water damage? Theres a sticker near the battery that changes color if theres water damage. Is that how they knew?

Man, that sux Celeste, but I'm thinkin you'd know if it got wet somewhere no?

I don't know enough to be much help, but I'm thinkin T-Mobile should be more help is there not some kind of warranty involved?

John, like I said, I don't know much, so how do you dry out a phone propery? Not that I plan on goin swimming with mine, but that knowledge might come in handy.

Basically, immediately remove the battery, sim card and media card (if installed) and set the phone in a warm place to dry for 3-5 days. Then put it all back together. Most likely it will work again. The big mistake is putting the battery back in prematurely because you're worried that it won't work again.

yea they showed me the sticker and it was water damage. guess that was the cause and if it was I didn't know about it and it dried like that. I was planning on switching to verizon anyway, this whole thing just kinda forced me to switch earlier than I wanted. Using my sisters RZR, I miss my blackberry so much =( ah well that's what happens when you don't pay more attention to your phone
