Default Default dial-out code

Please Login to Remove!

I tried search but perhaps I used wrong key words.

I've got a new Pearl and try to transfer my contact numbers into the Pearl. Here is my problem as I transfer the contacts and I am hoping somebody can help me: if I did not assign country code prefix (+[country code]) in front of the phone number that I want to dial, my Pearl automatically assigns '+1' (for US country code). Is there anyway, that Pearl would dial as per the number stored in its memory?

This becomes a problem as I live in Asia and all my stored contacts do not start with '+[country code]'...Do I have to manually add the country code prefix or is there an easy way to do this.

Many thanks!

The only setting you can change to help in this situation is under Phone >Options >Smart Dialing. You can change the default country code to another one in the list.

John - many thanks for your prompt response. But I just can't seem to find the Phone >Options >Smart Dialing...I looked under Settings but there is no Phone setting...

I am using an unlocked TMO Pearl - haven't been connected to BES yet as I just got it and just started to transfer my contacts.

Wirelessly posted (BB 8860: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Press the green phone button. Then press the menu key. Scroll to, and select, options. Then select smart dialing.

Default Typing contact name from home screen

Another basic question (and I have tried to search as well): I want to call a contact by typing the initial of the name from the home screen - but the initial is the alternate letter on the keypad? For instance, the contact name is Roger. But somehow I can't get to the alternate letter at all. I've tried:
- pressing it for a while: it prompts me whether I want to assign a speed dial
- simultaneously pressing ALT and the keypad: doesn't work

Many thanks again.

[Sorry - just realized that I posted a reply - I am creating a new thread on this]
