Problem I experienced with new OS was MMS messages conflicting with programs that needed an apn setting wap.voicestream.com ie JiveTalk, opera mini. Depending on what was used it wouldn't let the other work till battery pull. Multiple attemps at whiping/reinstall did nothing to fix. Downgrade proved it was a fault in new OS. Apparently I'm the only complaint about this so I don't know.

I'm running 4.2.0.67 and have not been having any problems. If I understand you correctly, unless I want to upgrade to a 4GB memory card, there's little reason to do so. Correct?

That's correct.

OS v4.2.1.107:

Pros:
You'll get the ability to disable the automatic backlight feature (but you can't get extra bright for outdoor use.)
You'll get the ability to separate sms from the Messages folder.
You'll get better memory management (though still possible to lose call logs and emails if you're not careful.)

Cons:
You'll introduce a multi-tap bug where it doubles letters.
Bluetooth GPS becomes unreliable.

I installed it last night and it works like a charm.
I just plugged it in, waited for about 40 mins and that was it. Smooth...

Is there a changelog or something like that ?! I just wanto to see what was chaged/added/fixed since my prev. OS.

Regards

Changelogs are sent to the carriers from RIM and the carriers usually choose not to release that info to us.

Hi, I'm new here.

I have an issue and a question. I just upgraded to this OS and have had to issues.
1) I just started sending emails to cell phones (received as text messages) but recently some people have told me that they get a weird set of strings before and after the body of my message. In contrast, before it came in as a regular text message. They would even be able to reply through text and I would receive it as an email. Howeve, now they cannot do this. I'm uncertain if the upgrade is the reason or if this never was supposed to work since I just started doing this.
2) This should be easy but somehow I cannot find the answer: how do you change/set your BB browser homepage?

Thanks for the help.

Thanks John.

But would you be able to tell from that small description whether the issue is likely hardware/software or network related so I can at least take the issue up with the correct party (BB or TM)? I sent an email to TM but they are yet to respond, I didn't even get the automated response yet.

Also, I tried doing this myself already. When I get to the currently selected home page, I cannot erase or change what's already there.

Actually, I did a search using some of the wording in the error message and found out that the issue appears to be related to the way the receiver's company fights spam. Since there is nothing I can do globally, I tried sending the text through my GMail account and for now, there are no known issues. Hopefully it works for everyone I text.

Thanks for the help anyway.

For anyone who might be interested, I found the answer to my second issue. After going to the Browser, selecting Options and going into Browser Configuration, I was forgetting to select "Internet Browser" in the first field in the screen (called Browser). The default is apparently t-zones which does not allow you to change the home page.

Where can I get .64 from? I can find as far back as .7# but nothing before that firmware. I am done with .107 way too many disadvantages vs previous firmware versions.

4.2.1.107 is by far one of the most problematic releases for me in recent memory. I've had to do five battery pulls or more since upgrading to fix several issues. Like, an hourglass frequently appearing when scrolling through emails. Also, yesterday, wireless data ceased working for emails and the BB Browser. I could surf with Opera Mini 4 Beta 2 (an EXCELLENT browser, by the way) but that was it. GPRS was showing, and I even turned wireless off and on again. If the next release is just as bad, I may go back to 4.2.1.103 or 4.2.1.96 as I did not have any trouble with those.

The hourglass issue can be attributed to low memory, usually.

Wireless data using TCP/IP has been an issue for TMobile subscribers in the last couple of days and TMobile is working on it.

I don't think your issues are attributed to the OS itself. Look into cleaning out some memory and give Opera a few days. You are not the only one with the problems with TCP.

I really don't like this new OS. My calls have been dropping, but I'm not sure if it's the upgrade's fault.

Anyone experience this problem; if more than one task alerts occur, the BB becomes locked (more like unusable). The alert of the 2nd task is locked at the forefront of the screen but you can go into other programs etc, all in the background. And to get out you have to pop the battery?

I've been running into that one since the upgrade a couple of days ago.

Pain in the arse I tell ya.

Welcome to the forums,
This link should help you out:

What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

For future reference, it is not necessary to wipe the device with JL_Cmder before doing a software upgrade. The upgrade process wipes the device automatically before installing the new software.

If you can't get it to connect and wipe, try it with the battery removed.

Default 107 deleting sms and call log - 10-09-2007, 12:32 PM

by the way in case anyone's having this problem it's very common with the new OS, it will erase your old sms and also prevent you from receiving new ones, also it will erase your call log. i was getting mad at a few friends for not getting back to me via sms, and then i found out that they had been texting me the whole day, but i wasn't getting them. with TMo customer service we just did a soft reset and seemed to resolve the problem, but she said it's happening to a lot of people with the 107

This has been an issue as far as I remeber with 4.2.1.xxx. You can also turn off and on your handheld and then be able to open/snooze/dismiss the event. This tends to happen more often if you snooze several alerts and then try to open one while there are still others coming up to open/snooze/dismiss after opening that one.

Yes, in the 4.2.0 to 4.2.1 upgrade the fonts are just slightly different.
