I installed the blackberry software and OS update.

Blackberry software backed up my phone data and proceded to update OS.

At some point durring update my screen went black and a red light flashes on and off while i hear the sound for a USB device activate/deactivate aswell.

After this no matter what i try i cant connect to my blackberry it keeps turning on and off, and loops over and over. i cant seem to keep my blackberry on long enough for software to connect to it. if there any suggestions to it im all ear

...and this didn't work either?

If none of this works, then it may be time for warranty exchange. Pretty rare that these methods don't work, though.

i had tons of memory i now have 8946424 bytes and this is after putting more on my phone, it might be a pearl thing, but she specifically told me this has been occurring with the new OS, but after the soft reset it hasn't occurred since and it's been about a week

It's definitely a memory problem. Anything less than 15Mb and you will likely have problems. Follow the instructions as I posted above and you will have better luck.

How about having to reinstall the .107 OS? Are there instructions anywhere for doing this? I am trying to reinstall the OS onto a Pearl that already has .107 because of connection problems.

Thanks.

From my experience and others in my area (maybe its a network thing) any 4.2.1 OS cannot handle more than one TCP connection at a time, but for some reason any 4.2.0 OS can.

No, upgrading software will not unlock a blackberry. You'll need to contact a 3rd party unlocking Service in order to purchase an unlock code. If you are a customer of the carrier that it is locked to, it's possible they might unlock it for you if you call them and request it due to travelling abroad and tell them you want to use prepaid sim cards.

Once you get it unlocked, a software upgrade won't lock it again, either.

Unlock codes are not free. You'll need to purchase from an unlocking vendor. There are several in our sponsors section. That's the only way if you can't get the original branded carrier to unlock it.

Welcome to the forums, kabanera!

Upgrading your OS will not lock your device. Once your device has been unlocked it can never be locked again. Yes, you can upgrade your device.

I called my carrier, ATT, and told them I was going to Germany for a week and wanted to use a prepaid SIM over there. They gave me the unlock code for free. When I got to Munich, I went to a Vodafone shop and bought a sim for 20 euros, put it in and it worked fine. When I returned to USA (yesterday) I popped the ATT sim back in and all is as was. No sweat, worked as advertised.

I'm glad the unlock was successful for you. However, what does it have to do with this thread? His question was, will this upgrade lock his device again.

The installation process will backup your blackberry prior to, then restore after.

Take a look at this: Remove IT Policy - BlackBerryFAQ

Does that help with your question?

Ut oh... I may have a problem. I know Rughopper (OP) mentioned that the install may take awhile depending on what needed to be backed-up and reinstalled.

However, in the original post, it mentioned that I should see a white screen with the hourglass. At this point, it's been 20 minutes or so but instead of the white screen and hourglass, my Pearl has been off. The unit will not turn on when I press the power button.

I have not removed the unit from the USB port. The Application Loader Wizard in the DM is at "Wait for device initialization" stage, which is right after the "Load JVM and system software" stage.

Is this normal? Should I unplug the unit?

While I was waiting, I read about a few drawback with this OS. Big factor is the instability with GPS puck like Freedom Mini. Should I go back to v4.2.0.64? If so, will it just turn up if I unplug the unit now?

Help! Thanks!!!

Wirelessly posted (BB 8860: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

It sounds like your device has hung up. Try unplugging it and removing the battery out and back in and then plug it back in. You'll be looking for a 507 error. Then if the OS doesn't load on its own try and reload the OS again by restarting Desktop Manager/Application Loader. You'll have to manually restore the backup when it finishes.

John... thanks for the quick reply! So I did what you suggested.

The LED light continues to flash red but the power on the Pearl won't go on. I hooked the Pearl back onto the USB cable but DM won't recognize it.

I really would like to get the 8320 but I have to get this 8100 up and running first.

Any more suggestions? Thanks!

Someone?! Anyone?! Oh man, this seems bad. I can't do a thing and I don't have a spare. I was half kidding about the Curve but if I can't get the Pearl up and running I may not have a choice but run to my local T-Mo shop since I won't be able to function without a BB.

TIA!

NJBB... thanks. I was able to figure out what I had to do. At least my Pearl works. I had to reinstall every application I had since it was wiped out from my back up.

Now I need to tackle why I'm having issues with Opera Mini, which I never had before.

Thanks again.

You can't do it on a mac unless you can run parallels, bootcamp, etc. You need a windows PC or a windows environment on your mac.

Default phone log and bb messenger - no data - 10-17-2007, 02:10 AM

has anyone else had these problems? the phone log is constantly empty. i'll have just missed a call, and when i go to the phone log screen, it says the list is empty. WEIRD!

the other problem is that the bb messenger chat screen only shows my outgoing messages, not the incoming ones, but on the message list, i can see the truncated incoming message in the subject column. again, WEIRD!

sounds like i might be the only one having issues with this?

btw, i'm on .107 and tmob.
