Question Problem - 08-23-2007, 09:41 PM

Hi:

I download this tonight, installed and received an error "507" with wite screen. I pulled the battery and went to loader in my common files and re-installed and it worked. However, I lost all my programs, contacts etc... Luckily I had a back-up but none of my applications were backed-up.

For some reason I don't have a browser icon or password keeper. How do I get them back?

Is there something I did wrong that caused this problem and loss of data and apps? I read others had this issue with other OS

Thanks

There are instructions about the 507 error in the first post of this thread. If the 507 thing happens (it does occasionally, even to me) you will lose 3rd party apps. You'll have to reinstall them.

I just posted a backup method for 3rd party apps today in the RIM Software forum. Might help for next time.

To get the browser you'll need to register the device. Go to Options >Advanced Options >Host Routing Table >Menu key select Register now.

For Password keeper you'll need to plug the device back in, go back into application loader and check the box. Check to make sure the other application boxes are checked (for the ones you want,) as well, while you are there.

Edit: I changed the first post of this thread and added a link to the instructions for backing up 3rd party apps. Better late than never....

Working great here. Faster than the previous upgrade for T-Mo(.103). Seems like the phone is running faster too.

What's this new OS supposed to do? Fix all the stuff they botched with the .103? I can only assume that's what it is. If so can I still get .64 back on my device, if so how?

When you go to download this, T-Mobile has a list of features/fixes with this OS. And yes you can go back to .64 OS but this upgrade seems fine. Go to the first post in this thread and click the one of the links (bottom one I think), it will take you to previous versions of OS.

You can't do the OS upgrade OTA. You have to use a PC.

Default 2007 DST patch - 08-24-2007, 01:46 AM

Since this version has the DST patch built-in, should I remove the 2007 DST patch I installed before after the upgrade?

I installed this OS into my BlackBerry Pearl earlier this evening. Seems very stable thus far and my Pearl is much quicker!

You can switch the grid menu to the ribbon menu as described here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/608695-post170.html. I did this when upgrading to 101 and it worked great. I am sure it's the same set of steps to replace it in 107.

Can anyone tell me whether or not this fixed the painfully slow lookups from the dialing menu? You know, when you begin to type someone's name into the phone app and it searches for them... When you highlight the name, it's supposed to automatically show all the numbers underneath. Well, in 4.2.0.x systems it was lightning fast. With 4.2.1.x (I'm on .101), it became slow as hell (takes 1-2 seconds for numbers to appear).

The upgrade killed my Pearl, all it does is show the spinning hour glass after the OS was finished installing. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you disconnected it too early...did you remove the battery while it was initializing? it's posted in the first post that it can show that hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time. Here is how to fix it if it doesn't come up eventually. Give it at least 30 minutes spinning before doing the following:

Yes same happened here. After about 20-30 minutes I was about to pull the battery when it finally initialized. after that it just went through.
So a simple advice, let it go for a while and never do it when you are in a hurry

Default Multitap - 08-24-2007, 06:49 AM

I did the upgrade and it was ok, but the same bug with the multitap. So, I try to reset the phone and now multitap work fine. I don't know how long it will work, because I mention that after every software update multitap work for some time, but after a while the bug appear again. This is my first time to reset the phone after update. Maybe this is the key to solve the problem. I used the program SoftReset to reset the phone. Maybe if you pull out the battery it will be the same effect.

Ya, I was going to bed and after ten minutes reset the thing. Misread about the wait, so good ole user error wins out again. Currently reloading everything, only problem i had was the reinitialzation after the loading of software, it timed out. I put the battery back in and now is getting past that stage, the reinitialize after the loading of system software, not after the whole thing is done. So heres to hoping it works. I just got my BBP two days ago, I love it to death already, so I really hope I can fix my own blunder lol.

Upgraded last night. Everything works fine so far. I use suretype. I did notice that the pearl responds a bit faster overall. I wonder if it is better os coding or possibly some overclocking.

I think overall its faster, but like someone else said, I could just be thinking that as well.

The thing that always kills me about these upgrades is that why oh why don't they bring back the option to toggle between SureType and MultiTap using the * or SYM key???

That would make me super happy. Its such a small thing but it would mean so much!

I have tried that before and never did that make any change to the multitap issue. I guess maybe now with this upgrade it might actually work? let me go check! brb.

P.S. Didn't work!

Ok John Clark!, so you can see what we've been referring to.

Enable multitap then go compose an SMS message.

When on the typing field type: san francisco nice and fast you should have something like this san frabbcuusco.

Never has this happened to me before at the rate of speed i always write on multitap.

Over all this OS does seem more responsive and havent had a dropped call yet! " knocks on wood ".

Ok, tried it again. For me, it only does it occasionally and only if I type it really fast. I can't even double tap anything that fast. If I go at a normal rate it works fine. I guess that's why I didn't notice it. It's much better than it was in previous versions.

Doubtful. Stereo bluetooth will likely be in future updates like 4.2.2 or 4.3.

Happened to me this morning - text didnt send and the red x came up and had to resend. I REALLY like the queue feature on the original OS... hopefully this will be fixed down the road.

To me this is a killer feature. I won't be updating from 4.2.0.73 until this is fixed.

No dropped call yet. Received a call in a 1-2 bar area and it lasted for about 4.5 minutes. On .101, I would be lucky to get around 2 before it sounded like rushing air. Looks positive.
