Thanks for letting us know -- another 4.2.1.x release I'll be skipping, this feature is way too important for me as well. I'm kinda annoyed that RIM can't seem to get 4.2.1.x to work as smoothly as 4.2.0.x by now, they've had plenty of time.

Is the RED x popping up because of a protocol error or timing out because you are out of service?

I remember my messages retrying while waiting for service to be re-established, but did receive X's too under because of a protocol errors. May not be something you can overcome. It may already be trying and just gave up after x number of times.

Would you really want it to continuously retry and kill you battery because it was using the radio so darn much?

This is my first post.
I upgraded the os a few weeks with the .101 os and that went smoothly and the pearl worked great. Now I'm upgrading to the .107 and the "Updating your device screen" on my computer seems to be frozen on "Back up third-party applications" - Retrieving module " com_plazmic_theme_vista_premium.cod."
It's been on this for about 40 minutes. What's my next step? Can I disconnect it?

It's hung in the backup. It shouldn't hurt to unplug it. You may need to reboot the device. Try a manual backup first before trying it again and see if it still hangs there. If it does, then delete that theme and try the backup again.

Ok. I disconnected the pearl and removed the theme. I can always reinstall the theme again later. It rebooted fine and I'm ready to try again.

Yes, it's been talked about before on the forum, in this very thread, in fact. It's actually better in this release than previous 4.2.1 releases. It seems to help to go to Options >Screen/Keyboard and change the key rate to "slow."

There is a searching for network bug - it shows up in messaging even when connected to the network -- in 107. I had this with 101 as well.

The blackberry.alx file adds ALL the vendor themes. There is no secret stuff in there. I agree with you, and while I'm the one updating the .alx thread now, I don't use the .alx files I upload there. I only add the themes I want to use. I even edit it so I don't get the myfaves theme/app added (since I don't use myfaves.)

The LBS.alx is location based services (Blackberry Maps.) Some carriers such as AT&T and Orange (in Europe) have decided to hide the icon for BBMaps on their devices so you'll pay for other GPS services. The LBS.alx file unlocks that icon so that it'll show on those devices. If you have TMo, you shouldn't need that modified LBS.alx.

OK, I went to the TMo site and clicked the links, and *nothing*. I read the obligatory screen and then it goes nowhere, no further links to click on, no download. WTF? Anybody else know where this can be d/l'd? Thanks.

EDIT - Nevermind, I found it on another site. Already have it installed. Thanks for the heads-up on the new OS.

o.k. so this is my first post on here, but i have been keeping up and trying all the new os that have been posted and every one i upgrade to i get the dropped call issue. i had to stick with the tmo .64 os which seemed to be the only one that worked and wouldnt drop calls. anyone else have this problem and upgraded to this new os without dropped calls? i prolly will try the upgrade anyways , but just thought i would ask first. oh and secondly would the use of viigo rss reader be the cause of this problem?

oh correction its my 5th post haha

You can't. You need a PC or PC environment.

Is this only text messages? Or is it e-mail too? I use the queue feature for e-mail a LOT, but pretty much never use it for text messages.

You can change it back to the ribbon menu by changing back to the previous zen theme as described here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/608695-post170.html.

Another issue I found on this one - if you had a Bluetooth headset connected to the 8100 and a call came in, you could quickly toggle between bluetooth, speakerphone, and handset by hitting the '.OP' key. Now it'll only toggle between bluetooth and speakerphone. That sucks!

Anyone know a different key for when the headset is connected but you want to pick up in the phone's handset?

...didn't know that either. I knew it toggled speakerphone/handset but didn't know it toggled bluetooth too.

Yeah, it's annoying because I'll have my BT headset in the charger but technically it's still connected to the phone. So it rings, and I pick it up fat, dumb, and happy and it's in my headset...about 10 feet away. I got good at hitting that key twice really fast and it'd pop right into the handset. But no more, I'm afraid.

Well, if anyone knows a quick key instead of going through the menu that'd be great. It's so unprofessional to pick up the phone and have to fumble it for 3-4 seconds to get the call in your ear.

My install went pretty easily. I set it up to install then I went for a nice little run. After dodging a few rockets, completing a 5k run, I came back and it was completely finished installing. Isn't Iraq great?

Yeah, same issues. Disconnects many times while in TeleNav. Then when I exit TeleNav the bluetooth still shows connected (little arrows) when it should be disconnected. I have to turn the bluetooth off, turn it back on and start TeleNav again. It's an intermittent problem. Sometimes it works fine and other times it takes 10 minutes just to get it all going and get a route. I think it's an OS issue since it never did this in 4.2.0. All the 4.2.1 releases have had this problem.

Concept,
I'm an American not by birth but by choice (from a well-to-do European country, if that makes a difference to anyone)... a word of thanks to you and everyone over there, whether you're there as a soldier or a contractor, not that it should matter.

My install did not go well. It failed half way through the upgrade and bricked my BlackBerry. I tried to wipe the device for over an hour and couldn't get it to appear in the connection menu. I finally rebooted and tried again. Found my BlackBerry in the end and I managed to install the update. I lost my third-party applications but was smart enough to backup my data. In the end I guess when the upgrade failed it killed all the USB drivers in Windows which is why it wouldn't show up. Very Frustrating

I will say that after upgrading to .107 media files such as pictures load much faster, it was worth the pain to fix that alone.

It's not much help now but this might help for next time. I do this before every OS update and periodically when I load new apps that I want backed up. It can take quite a while to install all 3rd party apps again.

http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...arty-apps.html

Also, this can save you the hour trying to get it wiped again...

No. It is clearly a bug. Emails still queue properly. The problem is only with SMS.... This feature doesn't burn anymore juice than any other time you are in a No Service zone. The messages simply stay pending until it detects a network connection again.

We should definitely start a petition for this problem. I can't believe RIM don't take their time fixing an OS, it's like.....WHAT'S THE RUSH!

I have had NO issues with .107 since I upgraded on Thursday. I am using a TMO Pearl that I received about two months ago. Sorry to hear a bunch of you are still having problems. I hope they release 4.3 soon.

I believe the previous version is 4.2.1.101 (there was a 4.2.1.103 but that was pulled and replaced by the .107 release). This is possible, you have to uninstall the .107 release from your computer, and then install the .101 release. Then you will need to reload the OS on to your handheld device, too.

Smile .107 seems to be working - No dropped calls - 08-27-2007, 10:44 AM

After months of suffering through the mysterious TMO/8100 dropped calls issue with various OS versions, I decided to put .107 on my 8100 on Friday and give it a shot.

After a full weekend of use and driving around Colorado I only dropped 1 call (outside of West Vail -- but that was due to coverage issues).

YMMV but .107 is better than .101 for me!
