Default E-mail Syncing

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys,

I just got my first BB (Pearl) two days ago and am thus still learning a lot about it.

I've searched Google and these forums for a couple hours but couldn't find an answer to my question, so I decided to make a thread.

I have my Hotmail and Gmail emails set up on my BB and they are working fine. However, I am unable to sync between my BB and e-mail server. What I want to do is for the both devices to be in synch. For example, when I delete an e-mail from GMail on my PC, I want my BB to reflect that. I understand that I can do it the other way, however.

But the problem lies in that I get a _lot_ of e-mail. And it just isn't worth my time to delete them one-by-one on my BB. For example, my BB currently reads "1" for Hotmail, and "167" for Gmail. So, my Hotmail appears to be in synch (although my BB doesn't show 1 other e-mail that's in my inbox, but that was from before I got my BB so maybe it only detects new ones), but Gmail on my BB is so full.

As you can see, I don't want to have to delete a hundred e-mails a day click by click on my BB. Is there anything I can do?

Thanks in advance!

That's availabe on GMail and yahoo! mail but has to be setup in your BIS page. Once it's setup it takes an hour or so for mails deleted in the Gmail mailbox to be deleted on the handheld.

What is a "BIS page"? And could you give me a walkthrough s'il vous plait?

Thanks in advance!

It's the website where you can setup your internet email.

Hi John,

Thanks. I actually did go there yesterday before reading your reply, and checked the "Synchronize deleted items between this mailbox and my device." box for Gmail, as it was not checked before. However, my Hotmail one was already checked, but seemed to have been working on my BB before, so that makes sense.

However, it's been at least 12 hours since I made that change, and still my BB is not in sync. I even tested it myself by sending myself an e-mail to my Gmail account, then deleting it from my PC, yet it still remains on my BB.

Any ideas? I mean, I have that option checked now but still does't seem to work...

I look forward to your response...

With my GMail account (on T-Mobile at least) the e-mails that I delete from Gmail on my PC aren't deleted from the BlackBerry. It does work the other way around, though, where GMail items are deleted when I delete them from my BlackBerry. I believe there are some other threads about this. I don't know if the BIS 2.3 upgrade offers a true two-way sync with GMail. At least, I haven't got it to work for myself.

Yahoo! Mail seems to offer a true two-way sync. When I delete the e-mail from within Yahoo! Mail on my computer, it is removed almost instantly from the BlackBerry, and when I remove it on my BlackBerry it is removed from Yahoo! Mail.

I haven't tried mine in a while as I don't usally delete mails from the pc first. When I tried it before it did work, just took an hour or two. From what I've read, the GMail syncing is hit or miss. Yahoo, as stated above by jeremy, does work and is supported.

Your wireless carrier likely won't support GMail since it's a "beta" product. They'll tell you that GMail two way reconciliation is not supported.
