Upgrade your OS to TMo's latest. You can find instructions for download and installation here:

Wirelessly posted (BB 8860: BlackBerry8100/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

According to Tmo that update allows you to use the oz instant messenger program without a data plan. If you still can't get it I suggest giving them a call.

Oz messenger is an instant messenger program that uses sms. It works with AOL, ICQ, MSN and yahoo. If you have a data plan, JiveTalk is WAY better. beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging

Some of the OS releases are a bit flaky on getting the OZ IM to properly download with the service books. Since you don't have a data plan this will be harder, but you can download all the software parts, copy them to your SD card, and install it from there. (see this page for more info regarding that last part: http://lhurtado.vtrbandaancha.net/InstallJar.html )

Here are links to download each part of the OZ app, and the JAD installer file itself to use with the above webpage method:

http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...tMessaging.jar
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...tMessaging.cod
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...essaging-1.cod
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...essaging-2.cod
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...essaging-3.cod
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...essaging-4.cod
http://www.tmobileapps.com/downloadc...essaging-5.cod

Proceed at your own risk, of course, but I've installed OTA (you need a data plan to do it OTA) without any problems, I couldn't get the normal T-Mobile Service Book method to work with OS 4.2.0.73, had to install by hand.

TMobile 'says' the 4.2.1.107 update allows the Oz IM program to work. Whether it does or not is another story.

that's correct. It should install through Tzones. If you can't get it to work, give TMo a call. Or use Rivvie's method above.

Sometimes that's OK and there is no JAR file, even though it's listed inside that instantmessaging.jad. I just clicked my own posted link, and sure enough it's not there - this is OK, ignore that file but get all the rest and it should work fine.

Typically if there's no JAR file to be used the line inside the JAD file says "unknown", instead of listing a non-existent JAR file that doesn't live on their server. I don't quite understand completely how the BlackBerry works (read: I have no hard evidence/documentation to support this) but in my travels I've found that any time a COD file is listed in the install stuff, the JAR line can be missing, wrong, or empty and the BlackBerry just works without it fine. It makes me believe that the logic is "any COD files listed? yes, ok then let's ignore whatever JAR is listed - we don't need it."

The above makes sense if you know that a COD was originally a JAR file that's been post-processed by the dev tools to strip out junk and make it BB specific. It's all still java code somewhere deep down.

Separate post for a different reason -- you list AT&T on your profile, the OZ AIM stuff we're talking about in this thread is T-Mobile specific. You can install it on your AT&T Pearl but it won't work (from what they tell me, don't have AT&T).
