The material is not Steel. It's chrome plated plastic. I think the cost of trouble of getting it re-coated would probably be cost prohibitive. You might want to look around for a used or new cover if it really troubles you.

But its little scratches but they seem to be spreadin? {{on top nex to the stand by button..but do u kno any resources of where i can coat it..or wat i can do

I have a chip there and have done nothing that should have caused it. I would look into some model paint (Chrome). It *might* work for a touch-up. Short or that I dont have any further suggestions.

I just noticed the same thing happening to mine... Try putting a very thin coat of clear nail polish on it...
