Default After firmware upgrade ... SOS (no coverage)

Please Login to Remove!

I've posted this message in the 4.2.1.175 sticky, but hope to have more chances in an individual thread. If the admins doesn't find it adequate, please remove it.

I've tried the new 4.2.1.175 / 4.2.1.107 firwmare and found again the same recurring problem that I'm experiencing consitently. The process goes on smoothly but at the end I've got no coverage with the red SOS signal.

My 8100 device came with the 4.2.0.67 version installed from Movistar, my carrier here in Spain. I'm managing a lot of devices 8100 & 8800 through BES but I cannot upgrade the OS. Everytime I try I end up the same way, the red SOS.

I've tried the software downloads available here at the BlackBerry site for Telefonica Spain and i've only managed to install package v4.2.0.79 / 4.2.0.67 but even the latest package 4.2.1.164 / 4.2.1.101 doesn't work.

It seems as if the device can only work with OS's supplied by my carrier and even not all of them. I've followed your advice and deleted the vendor.xml, and as you can see I can go through the upgrade process but the device doesn't like it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

It does sound like it has something to do with your carrier in combination with that OS version. I am assuming that the original OS (4.2.0.67) works fine. Is that correct?

The original version that came with the device and that could be downloaded before (package 4.2.0.67) from the Movistar website works fine.

Alternatively downloading from the BlackBerry Carrier Downloads page, package version 4.2.0.79 works fine too.

Movistar has published in their website a new approved package version 4.2.1.101, but there's an error in the web page because if you follow the link you'll get version 4.2.0.5.7 instead. I've reported it a few days ago but they haven't updated the link.

In the BlackBerry Carrier Downloads page, there's another package version 4.2.1.164 / 4.2.1.101 listed for my carrier but it doesn't work.

Hope this help clarifying my circumstances ...

That link to the .101 Telefonica version works well for me, no problem downloading it.

If you refer to the link in the BlackBerry Carrier Download page, it works for me too, but I cannot get working on my device.

The .101 package I referred as a wrong link is located in the official Movistar page for the BB 8100 , located here

BTW & FYI Movistar is the name of the mobile services offered by Telefónica in Spain so both names are the same company.
