So I have been reading about this problem now and already am annoyed. My phone is no less than two days old and I too have experienced the missing call log and lost messages. I checked my memory to see if I need to delete things, but no, its perfectly fine, and I have plenty left. (As I should, the phone is two days old!!!) I have the version 4.2.1.96.

Any suggestions? And yes, I pulled the battery out and followed that advice too... which in my opinion, is ridiculous for a brand new phone.

Hey Kirstenaline, first, welcome to the forums.

If I were you, I would take it back then, and exchange it. It really should not delete call logs that quick, after two days you shouldn't have called enough numbers to have much of a log.

I realize that it may seem like alot on a device that has 64mb.... but what was your free memory when you checked it? If it's lower that 16mb free you will likely encounter issues.

If you have not installed applications I am guessing that applications running in the background are eating your memory. Never close programs using the Red End key. Always use Menu>End (or Close)

To see what you have running in the background press ALT+Esc (If you see more running than 5 apps you have things running in the background.

So, it shows I have 24 mb available.... should be enough right? Good tip on the running programs! Also, I have to icons showing for messages, both show my email (gmail). One has a globe in front of the envelope, the other does not. Is there a reason to keep both, or should I delete one? I still have another icon that shows up for SMS and MMS.

Hide the specific envelope for gmail only, keep available the general message folder. To hide > hover over the icon > menu > hide.

24mb should be enough, My wife's Pearl keep less than half that, and she has never lost her call lots and SMS, although there is NOT a magic number.

I would agree with JS on taking the device back unless by chance you had a previous BB and restored the information on the new device. In that case if it's older activity that is missing your settings may only keep 2 weeks or a month worth of data.

I have 31Mb free and have lost call logs and emails when using memory intensive apps like TeleNav. It just seems to happen on these devices.
