Default STRANGE,VERY STRANGE : Media Net

Please Login to Remove!

This morning I was reading some of the posts and I started playing with my new BB 8100 that I just got two days ago.I downloaded the new version of the Desktop Manager, the TMO new OS,the ColorPearl application and the SoftReset application.EVERYTHING work as it should : P E R F E C T. I forgot to mention that I DO NOT HAVE A DATA PLAN,just 450 minutes phone air time($39.99/mo) and the AT&T 200 messages starter package ($4.99/mo) Then,I downloaded the iPhone Theme and installed.WOW !!!! I GOT MediaNet and working just fine.CAN ANYBODY EXPLAIN IT ??? Like I said,I didn't sign up for ANY data plan and I didn't have any Browser or MediaNet on the Blackberry 8100/Pearl before these upgrades.I used my laptop for the downloads/installations along with the Desktop Manager.Am I lucky or Am I lucky???

Before you consider yourself lucky... wait until you see you next wireless bill and all of the per-Kb data charges you're currently racking up.
Don't be surprised when you get hit with some hefty data fees.

What part of the explanation did you not understand?? You don't have a data plan but you are using up all kinds of kb's playing with your new toy. WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR NEXT BILL YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR ALL OF THE DATA AT A VERY HIGH "PAY AS YOU USE IT' PRICE.

No sir,I do not use up all kinds of kb's playing with my new toy.My question is how come I am able to use the browser/MediaNet if I didn't sign up for a data plan and how come the MediaNet icon is there now and it wasn't before? As you can see I am a new member and each time I get a new "toy" I do a research on it and upgrade if possible. My understanding was, after reading some posts, that IF ONE DOESN'T HAVE A DATA PLAN with AT&T or other, will not have the browser/MediaNet icon on the BB 8100 and CAN NOT use email or other web related features and that was my case also. But it all changed after I installed the iPhone Theme on the BB 8100.Previously,I installed the new TMO OS,ColorPearl and SoftReset applications but I DIDN'T HAVE THE MediaNet there.IT HAPPENED AFTER iPhone Theme installation.THANK YOU !!!

OK... I'll try to put this simply for you.

You did not do enough research before you bought your new "toy".
Without a BlackBerry Data Plan, you can still use the MediaNet WAP browser, or a third-party web browser (such as Opera Mini).
You will be billed for data usage on a "pay as you go" basis if you don't have any data plans provisioned on your account.
The more kilobytes of data you use, the more you pay.
For some Blackberry devices (8100 included) and for some providers, you don't need a BlackBerry Data Plan for web browsing if you have properly configured APN settings on your BlackBerry... which you apparently do have.

Go for the 4 gb Bra it's proven to work. Which you can read in a thread already posted on here .To answer your question bout the icon not being there then appearing after you installed iphones theme . Prolly just a coincident . Some users have said tmo told em it takes up to 24 -48 hours for the web icon to show up.Or it may require a battery pull or reset .

Yea, get the 4gb, the more you download OTA, the more your next bill will be for the data usage, since you don't have a Data Plan.

check your data usage on the AT&T website, that way you can see what you have been charged for so far.

Ahhhhhhhhh.....I recall having three browsers on my 8700c when I had it, but I didn't play around with it much since my company was so damn strict.

Dave
He doesn't have the data plan so he wouldn't have access to BIS nor be able to send service books but you are exactly right for someone who does have the bb add-on.
