Hi all, I have been having my BB Pearl for about a week now. Before, I owned an extremely old, free Nokia. It was clearly time for an upgrade!

So, I am having fun with this new, pretty phone. Clear calls and what not. But I'm on the verge of returning it because of the ridiculous alarm/snooze. I use my phone as an alarm clock, and I am not going to settle and buy another alarm clock. My partner uses a real alarm clock on his nightstand, and I'm not going to have 2 clocks in one bedroom. Also, I sleep over at my sisters' sometimes and they don't have one in their bedroom. Basically, I don't use my phone for anything except for making calls and waking me up. It has got to do both, or else I'm not getting my money's worth. I don't do email/internet/music on my phones like others do, so I really just expect that the alarm will work for me.

What is driving me NUTS is that you literally have to wake up, look at the phone, find the special button, and scroll to snooze. Oh, and BE CAREFUL not to hit dismiss, because then you're screwed! On my old cheapie, any key was the snooze key. And if I couldn't wake up, it would keep ringing all morning for me. On this stupid thing, I hit the snooze and there's like a 50/50 chance that I will ever hear another peep from the alarm! As you can tell, I woke up late this morning and I'm so angry that I could throw this thing into the toilet and flush. Of course, that won't do any good, hah.

I'm a very heavy sleeper, and I just want a decent alarm feature on this phone. I don't know who designed this, but they must not ever have to snooze in the mornings, otherwise they would have done better. I've never had a phone with this problem in my entire life.

I would like to have it so that any key was the snooze key. Is this possible?

Also, I do have the snooze option set correctly.

I noticed that many others in here had similar problems with theirs. Have you had any luck fixing it? If so, what did you do? If no one has an answer, I'm bringing it back today and getting a different phone. I hate this thing completely right now. I can't believe it let me sleep til 10! It's so hard for me to wake up in the mornings and I need an alarm that will be persistant about it!

I really would like to avoid bringing it back, as I do love the way it looks and feels, as well as the call quality. Why did they have to ruin it with such a dumb snooze??

Anyway, thanks for reading all my ranting, and hopefully I can work this out!

If you can access the internet via your phone you can download a program which will solve your problem.

MyAlarm Application

I use the alarm feature on my Pearl all the time. In a year of using it I've never been late. It is the way it is. There is no "fix" for it. Like anything else, it takes a bit of getting used to it. If you got the pearl just for a phone and an alarm clock, you truly did get the wrong device.

There are some 3rd party applications out there you may want to try. Can't think of them off-hand.

I don't have internet connection on mine, but I would get it if it would help. Does the program enable any key to be the snooze key?

Also, I have had an instance where my phone froze up and wouldn't let me dial anything for almost an hour straight. Did I just buy the wrong phone altogether?

why don't you download another alarm app.
and if you look hard enough there are free applications... such as a great little program, myalarm (search in these forums).
it's a good looking app that runs the tone forever.
you still can't press any key to get snooze.

I think she is running a very old version of the OS which did have major issues with the alarm. Once you hit the trackball it would quiet the alarm but if you didn't actually select snooze it would just stay quiet and not go off again. I also beleive that after 30 seconds of "Alarming" it would just go quiet and not activate again.

I was late for work so many times!

It's not my program. I am just a fan of it! Someone else wrote it. JC provided the link to obtain it above. Since you don't have Internet you can install it Over the Air (OTA). You will have to download it to your PC and then using the Application Loader on the Desktop Manager to install it on your phone.

Hey, there's a first time for everything right?!

And how did my post get moved into here? I thought my phone was a 7100, not an 8100.

You should have a CD that came with the phone. It contains a application called DeskTop manager. The Desktop Manager allows you to backup your phone, synch it with Outlook etc. You will need to install this software and connect your phone to the PC with the data cable. When you launch the DeskTop Manager you will have an option to use the "Application Loader".

Can I do this while still having this window open in case I have questions?

1. Install Desktop Manager to the computer.
2. Download the myalarm .zip file to the computer and save it in a folder somewhere you won't delete it.
3. Extract the files from the .zip file into the same folder. You should have an .alx file and a .cod file
4. Plug in the BB.
5. Open Desktop manager and run application Loader
6. Use the "add" button and browse to the folder containing the .alx file you extracted in step 3 and select it.
7. That should add a line in the application loader that says MyAlarm. Make sure it's checked and finish the loading process. It will load the application to the device.

If your phone looks like this it's an 8100 (Pearl)

A .zip file is a file that contains a few files "zipped" together. You should be able to double click on the .zip file and they'll unzip.

If you have a data plan on the phone it's much easier.

Honestly, this may not be the phone for you. This alarm app may not even do exactly what you want it to, either.
