I need some help, I just got a cingular blackberry pearl 8100 and I am having a strange issue with it.


When I plug it in, the led will flash yellow for about 15 min and then stay on a solid green.

If i hold down the power button, nothing happens, and the screen stays unlit, but if i press the voice command button, a voice will ask me to say a command.

If i take out the battery and put it back in, the LED will flash red once for a short moment.

I am using an OEM blackberry battery, and i got the pearl from ebay from a user who said that it was in perfect working condition, and it looks to be in good condition. I am contacting him to see what he says about it, but in the mean time, i was wondering what anyone thought about this, and what all the LED's mean? is my phone just not getting charged? I am using an old OEM moto V3 charger, and i have also tried charging through the USB using balckberry desktop software.

sounds like a bad screen .... it has juice if you get voice dialing

is a flashing yellow LED mean that it is charing?

Yellow means it is UNDER 15% charge.

Green flashing means you are getting a signal from your carrier, AND above 15% charge.

If it is flashing yellow, let it charge a good 4+ hours. Use the Power On and see if it comes up then.

should I be able to charge it with an old Moto V3 charger?

ok, i was just able to find a friend who had cingular and i popped in the sim and called it, and the phone rang. I was unable to accept the call by pressing the green button, it would just restart the ringer...is my phone bricked or is there some sort of reset button that I can press, or can i plug it into the USB and flash it with a new firmware and software?

does anyone have any ideas? is it easy to replace a screen?

A bad screen wouldn't necessarily mean the green call button shouldn't work.

I believe you have good reason for a return to the Ebay seller.

There is no reset button, pulling the battery IS the hard reset.

it is locked to cingular/at&t and i have t-mo. I was going to unlock it, but since I can't seem to power it on, that is not gonna happen.

I have a friend on cingular and i used his sim card in the blackberry and called it, and it rang, but i could not answer it.

do you think wiping the blackberry and reinstalling the OS would help it at all?

I am betting your BB is in an 'on' state if it is ringing (wouldn't that make sense). You need to return the BB to the seller and get every one of your dollars back.

just to confirm that I am charging it correctly, the BB should charge through the USB when the desktop manager is installed??? 4.2.x??? SP2???

Yes, charge via USB to a PC in which the DM has been installed , that is the correct version/SP.

You can also use "most" any mini-usb wall charger.
