I think just the carrier. I think the 8100c is for AT&T Wireless. Someone who is more familiar will chime in, though.

The 8100c is for Cingular (well AT&T now). Just the color is diffrent. Inards are all the same.

My roomate's BB was a bit different and it took us a bit to realize that the coloring of the keys were a bit diff. I like mine better, the 8100 with the color division that divides the #'s and the letters..just take a look here:
