today, some random genius decided it'd be HEEELARIOUS to try and rip out my headphone jack while i was listening to music. WELLLLLL
when he did, i replugged it but.... NO SOUND
and when i do get sound
IT IS VERY DISTORTED
normally the jack looks similar to this:

but in order to get good normal sound (as i found while typing this)
i have to bend the cord in a way so that it looks similar to this:

anyone have any ideas on why?

Nice artwork, BTW. In order to figure out what happened you're going to need to plug the headphones into another device and see if the problem still occurs, or plug another headphone into the same device in order to narrow down whether the cord is bad or the jack is bad. Hopefully they just broke wires in the cord.

Sounds like it is the wire are severed in the headphone cord. By bending the wire you are making them contact each other.

since we are on headphone topic, is there some kind of headphone for the pearl that allows audio out of a LEFT and RIGHT earpeice so when i listen to music i hear out of both sides?

You can get an adapter from Seidio that will allow you to use standard headphones to listen to music. There are also alot of people out there that had success with a Jabra one. I cant remeber the exact model number but you can use the search button to find it.

i just found out
its not the headphones that are messed up, it is the actual jack itself
any one know how to fix it?
ps if it helps, i think the brass contact in the back is misaligned

Yes, as a matter of fact....

Jabra makes one. I was at Circuit City one night looking for something else, wandered over to the Verizon Stand, and they hooked me up with one. Now mind you, I am on TMO, but no biggie.

Either one will work great. I paid the same for the Jabra. It lets you mute and hang up and all of the basics also, with very nice sound to boot!

I just wanted to add, that I liked the Jabra because it comes with options as far as ear piece. I use the small eargels that you see on the link to the c120's. My ears are small (insert jokes here), anyhow!, They mold right in to the earhole and fit nice and snug.

To fix that you would have to take the phone apart and sodder it back to te board. I think.
