In order to "fix" it with Desktop Manager you'll need to be installed using BES setup (as you did.) You need to connect to your corporate email system as if you were checking from your PC. I connect via vpn, personally. Then the Desktop Manager needs to pull your corporate email profile. You can do that in the desktop managager under Options > Profile settings. I have mine set to prompt. When the device is plugged in you should see "connected" (for the device connected to the computer/desktop manager) and "online" (for an online connection to your email profile.)
Once you do this then go to Email Settings and regenerate the encryption key in there. I can't remember the exact menu items in there but look for regenerate encryption keys.
If you get it setup properly then when you do an OS upgrade you will get automatic BES reactivation after the upgrade. That's how you upgrade without getting IT involved.
Additionally, if I plug in someone else's BB, I just cancel out when it prompts me for an email profile. Then it doesn't mess with any enterprise settings on other BB's.
