Hey guys...

I do not currently own a Blackberry Pearl but I am thinking of buying soon.

I just have one question.

If I buy this phone, without a plan, can I just insert the sim card from my current phone into the Pearl and expect it to work? Like have the same number and same plan as I do right now. (PS, I am not buying this phone from Rogers, I am getting it brand new box not opened from a friend.)

Thanks,
Matt.

You will have voice and SMS text, but no data. No Internet or e-mail until you get a BlackBerry Data Plan.

What do you mean by "no data"?

No Internet
No e-mail.
No data.
No MMS.

Voice only.

All I would really use is Voice and SMS...

My friend has a Blackberry Pearl, when I put my SIM into his phone where it's supposed to say "Carrier's Name" it said "No Data Transfered". What did that mean?

It said "Data Connection Refused", meaning you have no BlackBerry Data Plan on the account. Voice will still work.

Yes, sorry! That's what it said.

And if I would unlock the phone? All the features on it will work?

Same rules apply.
Without a BlackBerry Data Plan it will only work on voice and SMS.

I would say get a data plan, but I see you are with Robbers, I mean Rogers. Those prices are high.

Okay.
Thanks for your help!

Is it possible to add a data plan to my family plan? And have one data plan and one regular phone plan? Like update my number to a data plan?
