When I press the trackball, the phone menu screen pops up and types the letter Q into the address entry line.

This happens no matter which icon is highlighted and ready to be selected. As soon as I press the trackball to lock the keyboard, go to settings, whatever.

It also happens when I try to select a number from the call list, I press the trackball and it begins typing Q.

Any ideas.

Any moisture exposure to the track ball?

No, all dry.

I have also tried removing the battery and then rebooting.

If you didn't expose it to moisture... then try a battery pull (with the phone on) and see if it clears up!

Just tried the battery pull. The problem did not clear up. I pressed the track ball to access my messages and it typed Q.

In other cases, the trackball will scroll between the menu choices when deleting messages, but then, nothing will happen when I try to make a selection.

Sounds like moisture in the keypad or a defective keypad. If it's not moisture I'd say get the device warrantied.

I have the exact same problem.... now solution.

However, after a few days with the problem now it wont accept any keyboard entry at all so I can't even enter the PIN on bootup.

No issue with wet or moisture...?????
