Default Noob problems

I've had my Pearl for a little over a month and two things keep happening and I can't figure out why. Any help would be appreciated!

1. Sometimes my trackball doesn't light up. It just goes dark for no reason during different applications. This happens about once or twice a week.

2. Sometimes when I move the trackball the background screen gets lighter or dims.

Help! I don't like my trackball!

Welcome to the forums,
There is a light sensor near the led on the top right of the BB. The trackball light will go out when the ambient light is bright enough.

Your second issue is really the same as the first.

It reacts to ambient light....if it's dark it actually dims a little so as not to blind you, if you are in bright light it brightens so that you can still see it in the glare. The sensor is locate where the LED is so if you wish to test it then cover the sensor with your thumb and the trackball and keyboard should light up. The keyboard and trackball are on similar routines if it's bright out they don't light to conserve battery and when it's dark they light so you can see the keys..

Make sense?

You can try turning up the brightness in Menu>options>Keyboard/Screen

And you should be able to disable the automatic backlight in Options >Screen/Keyboard. If the option is not there then you'll need an OS upgrade to acquire the option.
