Pearl Initial Questions

OK so I just got my Pearl and I absolutely LOVE IT. I do have a few questions though:

1) What is the purpose of the exceptions that are in the profile modes? I can't find a purpose for them or way to use them.
2) Is there any type of application closer? On Palm or WM you have to close apps. I open them, but never close them.
3) When I receive an e-mail, it messes up the HTML and image coding. If it is an HTML e-mail, all of the images and frames show up as annoying coding. Is there anyway to change the e-mail to be formatted or something?
4) What is the difference between a PIN message and a Level 1 message?
5) Why doesn't BlackBerry messenger make a sound when I receive a message? I have checked the settings under the profile that I am in and it shows a tone with no vibrate.
6) How do I view sent e-mail items? My sent folder only has browser messages, sms, wap and mms?
7) Messages remain new on gmail.com even after my BlackBerry has retrieved them. I have tried all the POP settings in g-mail with no luck.
8) I have created spam filters in g-mail with like 200 spam keywords for subject and content. They work great in g-mail by labeling all the "customized spam" (spam gmail doesn't catch) and by archiving it. Then daily I will check "All Mail" to see if anything important came through. The only problem is that they still go to my phone. The filters available on AT&T don't have big enough text areas for me to load those kind of filters to prevent the spam from going to my Pearl.

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for your help in advance. I spent like two hours googling all this stuff and couldn't find anything.

1) What is the purpose of the exceptions that are in the profile modes? I can't find a purpose for them or way to use them. Exceptions let you personalize a notification for a user or users (ringtone for a specific person)
2) Is there any type of application closer? On Palm or WM you have to close apps. I open them, but never close them.
ALway user Escape or Menu>End (Or close) Otherwist the Red end key just moves it to the background.

No, but you can look for a program that will attempt to do HTML.4) What is the difference between a PIN message and a Level 1 message?
Level 1 message is a high priority mesage. By default PIN messages are treated as Level one but it can be changed in the profile5) Why doesn't BlackBerry messenger make a sound when I receive a message? I have checked the settings under the profile that I am in and it shows a tone with no vibrate.
Are you sure you have the right profile activated? (Might try a battery pull)
6) How do I view sent e-mail items? My sent folder only has browser messages, sms, wap and mms? While in the folder press Menu> and change the view settings to ALL7) Messages remain new on gmail.com even after my BlackBerry has retrieved them. 8100 Series FAQ's - BlackBerryFAQ

1. Exceptions allow you to have a different alert set up for a particular scenario: How can I personalize my alerts from specific contacts? - BlackBerryFAQ

2. There isn't an application closer. Most times you can close out by bringing up the menu and chosing 'Close.'

3. The BlackBerry doesn't natively support HTML e-mail. You would need a third-party application. (most popular are Empower and BlackBerry Smart.)

4. I believe a PIN message is a peer-to-peer message from BlackBerry to BlackBerry using the BlackBerry PIN number. A Level 1 Message, in my understanding, is sort of a label placed on a message that comes through based on a filter (like if you want to have high-priority messages comes through as Level 1). They will show in Red on the BlackBerry.

5. How do I edit my notification tones (profiles)? - BlackBerryFAQ

7. This is normal. The BlackBerry won't download the messages from the server like Outlook.

2- I try closing the applications with menu and close but that only puts them to the back of the list in my application switcher

5- My settings for out of holster are set to:

Out of Holster: Tune
Tune: Notifier_2Loud
Volume: High
Number of Beeps: 3

I know how to change the settings and there is still no alert when i get a new message.

This will happen with some applications. I know on my 8700g the Phone Module, Browser, Mail and BlackBerry Messenger are always running.

I figured out number 5. I was in Not Available mode so it wasn't disturbing me. Anyone have any ideas on the other stuff?

8. You need to kill spam at your email server, best recommendation. Your filters at the BIS are not designed for what you are trying to do, and gmail already has some of the best spam filtering going as it is. Kill the spam there.

7. It will not be instantaneous, you would need a BES setup for that.

What else is there to answer?

Kousagi 10-04-2007 05:59 PM

I use the profiles for times like when I'm in class I dont want the phone responding at all, but still taking calls and texts, so I switch it to a profile for that. When I'm sleeping I set it to a vibrate profile because the ringer would wake me completely up, which I dont want if its a bs call or one I dont wanna take.
