Default New To Blackberry - 8100 OS Upgrade

Please Login to Remove!

Hey there,

I am new to the blackberry scene and I just got a refurb 8100 from ATT (cingular). The OS is currently 4.2.0.71 and I was wondering what I would get if I upgraded to package 4.2.1.154 (os v A4.2.1.96)? I am not using the blackberry for the data plan yet, but will be in the near future. Any thoughts?

Thanks,
-Yos

Welcome to the Forums.

You just need to read around the threads all dealing with the first OS update from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1
I would recommend doing it. However read here for the comments when it was updated.

BUT use this link for the latest OS:

Not having a data plan is the bigger drawback on service and features.

Thanks - I am a little skeptical about using another carrier's OS upgrade. I will probably just wait until att puts out the newest one. I just assume that I can go direct from 4.2.0.71 to 4.2.1.96 as well. I have been reading, but as a newbie to blackberry, I sometimes need a glossary and a little more time than usual.

Thanks for the assistance.

The fact that it's from another carrier doesn't really matter. They are all made for the 8100. Each version has it's own bugs and issues. Generally, however, the later the software version, the fewer bugs it has as they usually get them worked out by the later versions.
