Can anyone help with this: I have worked out and summarised what Intellisync and my Pearl are doing. These are the issues:

I sync with Outlook 2007

Periodically, I think every 24 hours or so when I sync, I notice that the number of calendar items in the handheld has dropped and I am asked to accept 850 deletions of Outlook calendar items on my PC

When I press resync, I am then asked if I wish to add 850 items to my handheld. Usually I press yes.

I have set everything I can to Outlook wins etc.

The handheld is not yet connected to my work's server, so I am syncing by USB to my own PC

There is no option in the Options menu for the handheld's calendar to turn on or off wireless or Keep Appointments (could they be disabled because I have never connected to a BB server?)

What is the number of keep days set for your Calendar entries?

From the Calendar, press Menu key, Options, Keep Appointments. Choices are 15 days, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, and Forever. My guess, if it's not set to Forever, is that it's deleting your old calendar entries; and that it's not a conflict between Outlook and the BB per se, but more that the BB's calendar entries occuring in the past are being deleted on a daily basis (at midnight).

The weird thing is, as I mentioned in my original post: there is no Keep Appointments option under my handheld's Calendar Options!. It just isn't there! I don't know if it's because a setting in Intellisync has removed this option or what, but it is very odd. I have seen in the BB's help documents that this could fix the problem, but I am frustrated because there is no Keep Appointments option.

Please help!

What version of handheld OS are you running? (Options, About).

Although as a new BB owner you might not be into upgrading the OS, etc., it might still shed light as to why you don't see that option.

PS - 850 calendar items is a lot... I just looked at mine, I have 45 and I thought it was cluttered, hehe.

It is 4.2.0.67

Would've thought that option would be on most OSs? Very odd.

I actually have 1030 Calendar items but Intellisync only is intent on deleting 850 of them, presumably because of their age. Fortunately it changes its mind on re sync. Maybe I have too many calendar items in my life!

The latest is 4.2.1.107, the link to it is stickied on the top of the page (PS - did you typo 4.2.1.67?). Although the OS shows as being for another carrier (TMO), you can load other carrier's OS's on your phone safely and successfully.

That said, perhaps another 8100 user running 4.2.1.107 or .101 can confirm first if they have the option to set the number of keep days before you go to the trouble of upgrading only to find it didn't add the functionality for you.

I keep dwelling on the "new 8100 owner" part of your initial post and am hesitant to outright recommend an upgrade, knowing how scary it might be to some.

Let's see if anyone using a more recent OS can confirm or deny the calendar keep days setting. I am running an 8800, handheld v4.2.1.101 which of course isn't the same phone; but the features are purportedly similar, to my understanding.

The OS in Options About says 4.2.0.67 without a doubt.

When I am feeling up to it, I am quite happy to do an OS upgrade, even as a new user.

I will wait and see if there are other suggestions...

Further thought: because of the older OS on your phone, combined with your just getting the phone, makes me wonder if the phone was previously on a BES; and that there might be an old corporate IT policy which prevents that setting from appearing...?

Is it a new phone? (thought I'd ask while we wait for others to comment)

Edit: I decided to click on your name and read your other posts. All I knew was what was posted in this thread and I don't regularly read the 8100 forum. It looks like although your Pearl isn't presently on a BES, it was on one... and if so, it's very likely a corporate IT policy is in place on your phone that is preventing the keep days setting from appearing for you. It's also likely that an OS upgrade won't fix your problem without first putting in a blank IT policy, which you can do without upgrading the OS and it might get that setting back before you get connected to your BES (there are instructions somewhere here on how to do the blank IT policy thing). If you are then able to change the setting and you later get connected to your company's BES, a newly refreshed IT policy will prevent you from seeing that setting again *BUT* you will by then already have made the change you wanted and the problem [I think] will be solved.

Lash, would you look on your BB at:

Options > Security > General Settings. Scoll to the bottom of the list and see what is listed under "services".

Under Services, there is a line Desktop[one of my email addresses], and Desktop[SHI and some numbers](AES).

I am now connected to the BES but having trouble sending emails via the server (that's another post).

Still getting the same problem with the hh trying to delete Outlook appts.
