Exclamation BlackBerry Kickstart officially named the Pearl - 08-06-2008, 02:55 PM

Looks like the BlackBerry 8220 will actually be the Pearl, thus replacing the candybar format. Anyone going to miss it?

For anyone getting one of these...

Just because this is a "clamshell" device, do not get the impression that it is safe for use in water. It is still an electronic device, and mixing with water will be harazardous to the device and you, up to and including death

I don't think they are renaming it the Pearl. I think someone at Rogers got a little mixed up. The 81xx series isn't going anywhere just yet.

on the crackberry website, they have a phone guide of phones to be released on the rogers network, and it shows the blackberry flip phone as the "kickstart," as opposed to pearl, so i'm not sure whats going on with it. i cant post the link because i'm below the required amount, but check out crackberry.com and you'll see it

I like it. It looks just like the Pearl, just a flip version.

I was in a T-Mobile sales class today and the Market training guy who gets trained on big ticket and business impact Items such as the @ Home product and the Curve when it was first issued said he was told by the Rim rep the Kick start will be on our Web Based Training Schedule soon. We get trained about 2 weeks before release.

I played with one today!!! It's nice looking and such but the dead space is ugly! Just like a pearl but just flip. Also, I noticed the LED's glow on the lower part of the keyboard a lot brighter than the upper parts kinda ugly and such. Some special type of resistor so it looks ugly. However the one i was playing with was the one before mass production i believe so hopefully we dont see that in the production model. And the trackball sucks! Really recessed and hard to scroll around, not as easy with the bold/curve and other models. Personally I wouldn't purchase one but it is sexy when closed =)

The 81xx series might not be going away, but the 82xx does appear to officially also be called the Pearl... (at least per the BES v4.16 - Policy Reference Guide anyway... Page 87, [89 of 205])
