Default Newbie in BB world with lots of questions - 03-18-2009, 12:37 AM

Hello,

I just upgraded my TMobile phone to 8220 Flip. I have never owned a BB before and saw this as an opportunity to make the leap.
I did not get the data plan nor the unlimited hot spot calling add-on. I do have TMobile at HOme for my landline and am able to access internet on BB via WiFi. now questions:

1. Does it cost me anything to browse the internet on BB via WiFi?
2. What free services can I use via WiFi?

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Mike

another question:
is there an application out there that would allow me to create contacts on the PC and then transfer them to the BB?

Wirelessly posted (9530; .135 MF231)

As long as you are on WiFi you will have internet access.
Without the BlackBerry Data Plan you will not get Push email, PIN messaging or use of bbMessenger.
For your contact use Desktop Manager to sync to Outlook or Outlook Express. Or use Google sync.

would they charge me for using internet via WiFi?

Outlook seems like a pain in the a$$. is google sync easier?

Desktop Manager! It's the software that came with your BB, or at least it should have. You can download it for free on the blackberry.com website too.

thanks
i did install it on my pc already. I thought that it would give the ability to create contacts and just load.

more Qs:
1. I only have edge and uma and not EDGE and UMA. i saw it mentioned in other threads. is there a difference? if so why and what am i missing?

2. how do i check to see if there are any applications running in the background and how do I turn them off?

3. I read in other posts about BB enabler that needs to be turned on by TMobile. does that apply to 8220 and what does it do?

1...Doesn't make sense?

2...Menu button and then switch application and go to anything there and then close it with the menu button

3...I'm not sure what that is but you can use your phone on any network if it is unlocked and dont need to enable anything, but tmobile has a blackberry plan you may need if thats what you meant?

Well, now UMA is in capital letters when on WiFi and it used to be in lower case. there must be a reason for it.

the difference between EDGE and edge is that when on Capital letters, the network its working properly...
IE if you have not subscribe to a plan on your network then you should not get EDGE... just edge and it will not allow you to have BBmsn, push email, internet via Edge..
