Unhappy GPS Maps - 09-14-2009, 01:56 PM

I switched to the 8230 (Pearl Flip) from the 8130 (Pearl) a few weeks ago. I used to have no problem with the 8130, but 90% of the time my 8230 can not even find the satellites. My network connection strength does not seem to matter, because it happens even at full strength. Does anyone else have this problem?

Network connection has nothing to do with finding the satellites. Totally separate.

Do you have Location services "on"?

Are you outside with a clear view of the sky?

Do you have a BB data plan (for map applications)?

Are you using BBMaps?

GPS Data Source is set to "Device GPS" and GPS Services is "Location On".

Yes, I have tried outside with a clear view of the sky.

I am on a BES data plan with 30Mb per month. I kept my data plan the same and only changed devices, the maps worked wonderfully on the 8130.

Yes, I am using Blackberry Maps.

BES did you say? Maybe the company IT Policy is preventing it.

I checked the BES Policy and it is not preventing it. The Policy is the same one that was in effect when I was using the Pearl. I did get maps working the other day on a replacement unit and I had 4-5 satellites, then it stopped working again.
I have requested my sales rep to look into when Blackberry is going to get them working. It is a service that is offered, so I think they should get it working or stop advertising it.

Wirelessly posted

GPS hasn't worked on my Pearl Flip since about a week after I got it. u'd be interested in hearing if this is widespread on THIS model. Obviously the circuitry on the Pearl Flip has to be much smaller than on any other BlackBerry. I wonder if that's part of the problem...
