This is what I heard back from the seller when I politely asked him if pre-release BBs will be PIN blocked when it officially launches. I cannot believe how people spend up to a thousand dollars on these without knowing that their data services will be turned off shortly.

the correct assumption is that the PIN will be
blocked for data usages,
me and my friend still
has the pre-release bold and they still work, i

havent tried after the blockage so its only data
that is a problem to
my understanding. however
buyer is on their own for those kinds of
issues.
phone and all other important things work for
it...
