Default Uma?

Please Login to Remove!

I'm with Rogers btw...

So it no longer shows EDGE at the top (when I'm at home,) it says UMA.

I know what UMA is...making calls through the net...but I didn't subsribe to this...anyone know what up?

How do I switch it back to EDGE?

You don't need to subscribe it just uses your regular plan. You would have to delete the WiFi profile out to stop it from connecting.

...or just turn off the WiFi antenna. Then, it can't connect to the router.

UMA = EDGE over WiFi.

Another way to switch back to EDGE on 8220: Options/Mobile Network/Connection Preference.

Select Mobile Network Only or Mobile Network Preferred.

What you are thinking about is Rogers Talkspot. I dont subscribe to it either, when im connected to wifi, it shows uma.

Sometimes when im connected to wifi and try to make a call i get a recorded message telling me the number im trying to dial is a local call. But it still goes through.

I havent seen any talk spot charges on my bill from rogers, so as far as im concerned theres nothing to worry about.

You don't have to be subscribed to a Talkspot plan in order to use UMA. When you're connected to UMA it just uses minutes as if you were on EDGE. It's just another way to connect.

I was under the impression that once you are connected to UMA, you do NOT use any of your allotted minutes. In other words, all calls thru wi-fi are free. Could you elaborate a bit?

Wirelessly posted (BB 11020)

Minutes are free if you purchase the @home plan or Talkspot plan, etc.

Thanks John. I DO have the @home service, but not the talkspot plan. Does that mean that although I have the @home service, I would also have to have the Talkspot plan to use the UMA service at one of the hot spots? I'm planing on upgrading to the 8220 just for the Wi-Fi capability.

I wonder how it calculates Free N&W when you're on wifi? You could be in Kerblakistan (some place I just made up) and be calling over wifi. How would it calculate a night or weekend?
