Default Phone won't turn off properly

I'm having troubles with my phone turning off/on (only just recently, I've had the phone for 6 months)

When I hold down the on/off button it says 'turning off handheld' as it should then hangs on the operator logo. When I then close the phone it appears to switch off. Then in the middle of the night it reboots and turns itself back on. Very annoying if you get messages in the night.

I have tried a battery pull, and the auto on/off settings are all disabled. Any suggestions, has my phone become possessed?!

I've not updated the firmware recently or added any new programs. I'm on v4.6.0.267 (Orange UK)

Hi, have recenttly updated to the latest firmware and the issue still persists. I thought it may be an application that I have running that it is preventing it shutting off (like facebook or gmail), but I don't think that is the case either
