Instructions for installing on ANY 8220(regardless of carrier)
1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.
Note For Advanced Users Only: If you plan on deleting the cod file for pre-installed media your exterior LCD will not function correctly. This does not pertain to people doing normal installs. You will not be affected.
For the previous version of this OS: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...a-english.html
Im always open to try newest OS.... but those of you who already have... Any noticeable changes?
Well I had a bad experience upgrading to this OS. The worst part was because when its over, the Blackberry App World its reinstalled so every single application downloaded from there its gonna need a restore too (not sure why) anyway this made my BBMessenger 5.0 useless for a long while... and I lost my contacts (lucky me that I backed up the list) and many other "big" applications took a while re-installing themselves...
If you do not have problem with your current OS, then stay safe there...
Does this upgrade solve the problem with the Bluetooth? On my BB, I can enable the bluetooth.
You can give a try... the Upgrade its working great for me after the issue re-installing... and it did solve a minor bug with themes for me...
But the bluetooth not being able to check the box thing its most-likely hardware so you probably need to change the phone over this....
good luck anyway
I'm running this OS. No problems.
I'm eagerly waiting for OS 5.0 though.... I hope it appears soon!
Ditto here. Running .305 with no issues, didn't experience the BB Aps/general application restore issue. No major changes, but seems to be a little more stable, and less laggy.
Alos looking forward to 5.0.
It's subjective, but it seems more laggy - the wheel less responsive.
The Facebook App is failing to connect. And Blackberry App World is failing to load with a timeout. Flickr won't connect.
AIM still works though.
BT still won't enable. Probably need to replace my handset for that one.
No time now but probably going back to previous OS tomorrow.
Will be downloading this into the wife's blackberry... Will advice once complete.
Have upgraded the 8220 Pearl Flip from 18.104.22.1688 (Platform 22.214.171.124) to 126.96.36.1995 (Platform 188.8.131.52).
My phone can't upgrade every OS...
I came from Vietnam, how can i sent my phone to repair hardware...?
Upgaded a new Rogers 8220
Now its stuck in the Clock.
Something wrong i did?
WAIT - it takes a very long time for the 8220 to upgrade itself.
v184.108.40.2065 will not work on my phone.
from 220.127.116.11 did a complete wipe (that came up with a 507 message), and Application Loader says that the applications that came with the 18.104.22.1685 package isn't compatible with the device. did i miss a step?
i rolled back to 22.214.171.124.
Still a little new to smart phones to try
I love this new 8220 phone, and am running v126.96.36.199 new out of the box. I havent had any problems yet so I think I'll wait to upgrade the OS on the phone. I was one the phone to T-Mobile and the tech had me change the desktop mgr online to v188.8.131.52, is this going to cause any trouble down the road ? If so should I reload the original disk that came with the phone.
