BB 8520 help on wifi connection

Hi! Im a new BB user. Im trying to connect thru wifi but it wont let me. I got it connected but whe i check it on it just shows the white mark. I know it should have been the green one or the check but it doesnt work. Please help. I did everything i could but the green mark wont appear.

Some carriers require you to have a Blackberry dataplan before they will send the WiFi service book. Do you have that?

Do you have data services turned on?
