Default Problem installing blackberry Os

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I tried to find the answer to my problem but no chance.

My problem is that when I try to install the blackberry os (from Vodafone) to my laptop where I am syncing my blackberry 8310, I keep getting the error message saying that the desktop manager is still running and therefore I can't continue. I looked at my task manager but I can't see anything related with desktop manager running. Therefore I am stuck.

I have also tried to run the installation after a fresh restart without anything running but I have the same error.

Anybody has any ideas to solve the problem?

Thanks a lot for your help

Julien

Sounds like you need a laptop restart. Make sure Desktop Manager is not set to start up when the computer starts. Then delete the older OSs from your laptop using the Add/Delete Software control panel. After any older stuff is gone, you should be good to install the Vodafone OS. As a checklist of what to do, look at the sticky threads at the top of this forum on the latest OS for different models. Detailed instructions inside.

And for God's sake, take the TREO out of your profile!!

Thanks Rambo for your reply.

I already restarted my laptop several times. Also, the desktop manager is not run at startup.

Regarding the sticky thread, I already had a look at it but couldn't find a clue to solve my problem.

Finally, I have updated my profile

Make sure your BB is not connected to your computer while this is underway. As a last resort you may need to uninstall Desktop Manager and re-install from a fresh download. Make sure you get Desktop Software v4.2 (SP2). I did the whole re-install routine and it cleared up some issues I was having.

My BB is not connected to my computer when I am trying to install.

I think I will have to do as you say, which means reinstall desktop manager.

Just before going through, is there a way to install an apps on the BB without using OTA and without the OS installed (that's basically the reason why I am trying to install the os)?

Like copying the files on the memory card or such thing?

Thanks a lot for your help

Unfortunately, the only ways to install apps are OTA or through Desktop Manager.

Do you have any Blackberry icons in the system tray at the bottom right of your screen? If so, right-click on them to close them. They may be running in the background without you realizing it.

I finally solve my problem. After checking everything (registry, startup menu, services) I couldn't find any reference anywhere to a start of any blackberry software.

Since I was desperate, I just renamed the "Research in motion" directory in "Program files" and "Common Files" and restarted my computer. After my computer was fully started, I rename the directory back to normal and launch the install, and here it goes, I didn't get the message that the desktop manager is running and I manage to install the OS.

I am just still sceptical on how the blackberry software are started since there is no reference anywhere.

Thanks for your help guys.
