I installed this and deleted the vendor file but did not get the additional themes. What did I do wrong?

go into the same folder that the aploader is in. Select the shared folder> pick the folder that has the os (8310 -v4.2.2 etc). unzip the attatched blackberry.avx file. Replace in that folder. Then rerun the desktop manager......

Hi guys,

I have strange behaviour after I upgraded.

In fact, I have updated my vodafone 8310 with this new OS however I have the feeling that the email push is slower than before. In fact, before I used to receive the mail on my bberry before outlook but now the mail is arriving on the bberry long time after outlook. Any ideas or people with similar issue?

FYI I am using BES

Thanks

Julien

After installing and running Enterprise Activation I now have duplicate emails and can only delete the original. Anyone run into this?

Update: Did a wipe and ran EA again. No dups.

More on this soon...
The actual upgrade went fine. However, my telenav app has gone. kapoot. called vodafone and they tell me that i can go their site and download it which is true except the size of the app is huge and it will use up all my data plan allowance. so emailed them and asked them if there is anyway i could download it off their site onto my pc and install it that way rather than doing an ota install.

let you know how i get on with this...

Guys, just to let you know, earlier on I had mistaken the size of the OTA download from TeleNav's website. It was in bytes and not kb as I thought. So I downloaded the software and installed it. All was fine. You will get a different icon from the one that comes installed with Vodafone. This version of the software felt much better though with post code search facility.

However, you may need to call TeleNav support to obtain a password. They were very helpful and the whole thing was sorted in out in a couple of minutes.

So, go ahead, get upgrading.

So did mine. My question is this: Is there any benefits of upgrading?
I was told, if it works, don't fix it...

Thanks ever so much for this. I have a 8310 on Vodafone UK. My vodafone sat nav application disappeared once I had connected it to the application loader without even trying to upgrade the firmware.
I've downloaded the telenav software and will ring for the pin and activvation code when they are open later today.

I just got my 8310 four days ago and my god it is the best "phone" I've ever used. Coming from a Nokia E62 and a Cingular 8125, it's amazing. I have a noob question though. After I upgrade do I have to restore my phone to get the address book/settings back, or do they never go away?

Your address book, messages, and call log that were on your phone will be restored. If you have yahoo messenger, you will have to install that again and if I remember correctly, you will have to reinstall 'yahoo to go'.

I'm wondering the same thing. What are the benefits of using this OS? For those of you who have upgraded, what do you notice is different?

Are you serious??? Read the threads. Most of the time these upgrades only contain minor bug fixes and some of them may be transparent to the end user. Other times there are added features, etc. As far as the benefits, that would depend on what OS you are currently using. If everything works fine for you then there is no need to upgrade. If you like being on the leading edge of the OS upgrade scene then upgrade and post what you find.

RIM gives release notes to the carriers but usually they decide not to provide them to the end users.

Thanks! My update was flawless! What would I have notices had I NOT deleted the referenced file?

Thank You,

Forgive my noob ignorance here.

I downloaded the 4.2.2.176.exe file and saved it to my system.

I then used textpad to open the Blackberry.alx file. I scrolled through it and removed all vendor id's from the themes using this method:

How to Add Vendor Locked Themes - BlackBerryFAQ

Once done I file saved the modified 4.2.2.176.exe file.

I have the apploader that came with my BB installed on my PC so I did not need to DL the one shown in the OP's first post. DO I still need to delete the vendor.xml file from my apploader?

Also the 4.2.2.176.exe file, I am on Cingular/AT&T and my 8310 came with 170, are there any other files I need to edit in the Blackberry.alx file other than removing vendor id's from the themes?

Yes. Delete the vendor.xml file. I always delete the vendor.xml file regardless of where the OS came from.
