Default Such a junior question about restoring data to an 8310 red

Please Login to Remove!

Good day everyone. Yesterday, I purchased an 8310 for replacement of my 8700C. I am technically challenged to the nth degree. Having said that, apparently so was a rep and manager at the AT&T store. He first attempted to download Telenav to my device memory. The manager berated him for not installing it to my memory card. As I discovered, this is not possible, thus, upon returning home, I downloaded Telenav to its rightful place.

To cut to the chase, I have a very neophyte question about restoring data from my 8700C backup file to my new 8310. On my desktop, I have left intact software version V4.2.1.96 (platform 2.3.0.7). Should I remove this, install the desktop software included on the CD for my 8310, and then restore my data, or uninstall the old desktop software and then do a restore? I have also not used the Change Device Wizard because the good people at AT&T helped me update my device information at the BIS site (blackberrystart...).

By the way, the AT&T personnel couldn't figure out how to transfer my contacts from my old SIM card to the new one. Ah well.

I tried to search for the information requested, but I ended up confused and crying on my deck.

Thanks for the help.

While there shouldn't be any problem restoring using the old DM, you're always best going with the latest.
Switch device wizard will no do anything with you BIS accounts but will take car of copying over all your data and any third party apps you had on your old device (provided they are compatible). I'd recommend this route as it requires little to no work on your part.

Default Thanks Perfect Storm

It was very kind of you to reply so quickly and patiently. I teach communication, but this has never helped me understand how devices chat with each other.

I managed to copy my address and other databases to the new phone, but, prior to reading your note, I left the old DM intact and just clicked away. I think that all is well.

I note that you live in Halifax. Although I have resided in Chicago for many years, I remain a Canadian citizen and in my youth spent many years in St. John. This awarded me the opportunity to tour Nova Scotia on many occasions. With that thought in mind, is the Minglewood Band still in existence? Its version of "Can't You See" is a classic.

Thanks again.

Default I meant Saint John

Sorry about that. I meant to say Saint John. Gosh, I have been out of the country far too long. By the way, my father was the general manager for CHSJ in the 60s. He also served as the track announcer at the harness racing track. Ah the days.
