I've downloaded a new theme on my PC to upload to my new 8310 (Vodafone), but when I try uploading it with the desktop software I get:

"The Blackberry desktop software does not have Blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer."

My DVD RW device packed in recently, so I had to download the 'latest' software (version 4.2.2.14) from Blackberry instead of using the CD from Vodafone. I guess this may be the problem??? The software I downloaded could be older than the device????

Any thoughts or suggestions where I could get the latest/correct software would be appreciated.

What OS is on your device (options > about, the line that starts with the "v.")?

When you downloaded the latest OS (version 4.2.2.14) did you install it to your PC (by running the EXE file)?

I am having the same issue. Is it possible that the correct OS file isn't listed yet. I have been to the BB site and then followed the links for AT&T, downloaded the desktop and device software and nothing. Im so frustrated with this device I could smash it into a billion pieces.

Yeah, just seen under options that the 8310 device is running on v4.2.1.146 (Platform 2.5.0.16), so my guess was right: older desktop software.

Is there a download for their desktop software version anywhere? Anyone?

I'm not quite ready to smash my device into a 'billion pieces' just yet but the same could not be said of my Dell PC.

sorry the O/S should be: v4.2.2.146 (not v4.2.1.146)

Wait, so you downloaded the latest Desktop Manager software to your PC, and installed it. That should not interfere with anything.

To load other applications to your BB, via Application Loader, you will need your OS downloaded and installed to your PC, as well. If your older version of the OS is not available from your carrier any longer, you may need to upgrade it.

Be sure to backup.

I'm a bit lost here ... I'm new to BB.

So I downloaded Blackberry desktop manager to my PC (version as above). I looked and this includes 'Application loader': 4.2.2.14

But I need to download some other software to my PC too?

Sorry if this sounds dumb but I'm only 4 days into the new world of BB ...

Yes, you must download your current handheld Operating System which is on your BlackBerry, also to your PC. That way, the Application Loader can load additional applications to your BlackBerry.

No luck. I installed the OS to my desktop as advised but still get the same message and cannot upload apps.

For info my device runs on v4.2.2.146 (is the 6 important?)

I downloaded: BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.2.2.164 (Multilanguage) (for Blackberry 8300 curve BUT note it is not 146 but 164????)

Package Version: 4.2.2.164
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.2.2.75
* Software Platform: 2.4.0.31
* File name: 8300EFIGS_Dutch_PBr4.2.2_rel164_PL2.4.0.31_A4.2.2. 75_Vodafone_UK.exe
* File size: 71.87MB

Installed ok on PC but no joy with the device. Sync and media manager work ok. but no app loader.

I'm probably doing something obviously wrong but not sure what.

I had a similar problem and loaded 4.2.2.176 to my device. The link to do so is at the top of the 8300 forum. When I did that, everything loaded fine, no more issues.

You downloaded an OS for another model. You have the 8310, NOT the 8300. Don't expect anything to happen having an OS for another model.
Download the OS for the 8310.

Thanks. I've followed the link and the 8310 OS software is now installed ... but still not working and I can't load apps on to the BB device.

I look on desktop manager: under the 'device software' tab and there are two bits of software installed. One is the redundant 8300 series software.

How do I get rid of this? There seems no obvious way to delete/uninstall it. I guess this could be the reason why I still cannot load apps.

... apart from add/remove programs on the PC. Done this and followed instructions to remove vendor prog.

Hi guys,
I'm just 4days into the BB world and i'm glad to have found this forum because here in Singapore, the no. of BB users are many and the technical assistant over at my service provider wasn't very knowledgeable with helping me.

This forum has helped me solved 2 problems which has bugged me for the past few days and i'm really glad with the quality of response and questions here.

Really wanna express my gratitude to all who replied with solutions in this thread because it's helped me with my application loader problem with my curve 8320.
