You can't upgrade your OS on a Mac unless you're running boot camp on & load Windows on to it. To upgrade/downgrade your OS and make back ups you need Windows. It's too bad you can't do that on a Mac, hopefully in the near future.

OS Upgrades can only be done from Windows with BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Does require Windows, but not Boot Camp. I am using VMWare and it works great.
