Default upgrading OS/firmware

Quick question, if I upgrade to a new OS release, do I lose all my apps and data, etc? I would hate to reinstall all my apps

Just be sure to select to have your data/apps backed up and reinstalled when installing a new OS.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8700/4.2.1 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

I believe there is a way to save your apps. I believe a search will turn it up. I am mobile right now so I don't know where the link is located. But it is possible to save both.
