Default Call Log in way of Address Book

Please Login to Remove!

When I try to "Dial" from the home screen by pressing a letter, which I would like to bring up the Address Book, the call log pops up and takes up about 90% of the screen and leaves me about 3/4 of 1 line at the bottom, on which I can scroll the Address Book, but I can't really read it (it's about 1/4 obscured by the Call Log).

I want the Address Book to appear by default when I press a key from the Home screen.

Anybody run into this? Any way to fix it?

The device is a new Curve (8300) from AT@T

Thanks in advance.

You want the ADDRESS BOOK to appear from pressing a shortcut key from the Homescreen? Tap the letter 'A', as long as you have Dial From Homescreen disabled at Phone Dialer scree > Options > General Options > Dial from Homescreen = NO.

Then you can use ALL the great homescreen shortcuts you want.
For details , see here:
Home Screen Shortcuts - BlackBerryFAQ

Your Speed Dial from homescreen is actually still enabled, you just PRESS the corresponding key to the speed dial you wish or have set.

Good luck.

OK...disabling "Dial from Home Page" works better. I can press "A" and then press the first letter of a persons name and get to that person, but, I was hoping to be able to go direct to the J's by pressing "J" and the P's by pressing "P", etc. without pressing the A first.

The Call Log also gets in the way if I press the green "Phone" button, which brings up the "Call Log" and also obscures the Address Book, again I can see the Address Book at the bottom of the screen (barely), and can scroll it, or "jump" to the J's by pressing "J", but's it not enough to read it completely.

Yea, you can't do it that way, press J to bring up all the J names, etc. You do that FROM the address book. And you get the Address Book by tapping A from the Homescreen.

I think you are trying to do something that isn't possible. The call log does't "get in the way" if you press the green call button, the call log right where it is supposed to be. You place your cursor in the blank area and type the first few characters of your contact's name J o h n... all the Johnsons and Johns start appearing... continue typing the name or scroll to the correct name.

I understand what you saying about pressing the phone button and then typing the first couple of letters, such as J O at which point I should be able to scroll the Address Book beginning at JO, but all I see is about 1/8" of the Address Book at the bottom of the screen (which is obscured by the call log....grrrrr!!!). I can scroll the Address Book at that point, but, I can't really read what it says.

I wonder if it's a bug?

Try pulling the battery (while powered on) and replace to reboot the BB. Something is weird there. Nothing should be obscured or hiding the other.

Pulling the battery worked!

I had tried powering off and on, but the battery ejection worked.

Much better now.

THANK YOU!!

Excellent. A battery-pull-reboot (a hard reset) fixes 90% of glitches with a BB. I should have sugggested that first off.
