GSM = Phone only. No data netowrk available.
gprs = Phone, carrier data network available, but not authenticated to RIM for BlackBerry services. (No BB email, web or PIN messaging.)
GPRS = Phone, Data, BlackBerry services are available
edge = same as gprs, but faster data.
EDGE = same as GPRS, but faster data.

Wipe your BlackBerry using Javaloader or JL_cmder

GSM no good for your bb, phone call only. it could be a SIM issue, but honestly the chances are very slim.

definitely upgrade the OS and see if that helps. go one step at a time, if you have any 3rd party software on it, hold off on those after reloading the OS and test it for couple of days. it could be the 3rd app thats causing it as well.

Penguin got some awesome instruction there.
