i used to had the 8700 and to brighten up the screen..all i had to press is the top left corner button since i have my brightness set to 40%. now the top left button represent the mute command. and when i press the 2nd time on the 8700 it will turn of the screen. but on the 8310 i have to hold down the mute button and it goes to standby mode...it that equilavent to the 8700c pressing the top left corner button twice?

and on the 8700..u can press any button to turn it back on..on the 8310..u can only do it by pressing the mute botton! bummer! but any1 here know what button to press to brighten up the screen? thx in advance.

On the 8310 the mute button will only do mute and standby. It doesn't control the screen brightness. Standby is very similar to "sleep" when the device is in the holster. You have to hit the mute button again to unlock it. That's just how it works.

I believe this is normal, at least that is how it worked on my BlackBerry Pearl and my new 8320. I don't know if there is another key to disable the automatic backlight like that. I would be curious to know that.
