So gtalk froze up on me last night. The os was still responding and I could switch between apps but gtalk was dead. Is there a way to kill a running application in the blackberry os? If not built in, any third party task managers that will let you do it?

I guess that's either a testament to the applications' stability or just people who have gotten used to rebooting. Applications freezing is probably much more rare than an app crashing, but given that the OS seems to be fairly robust with protected memory spaces, etc, it would seem logical (and trivial for them to implement) to me to have some more graceful way of dealing with runaway apps.

We'll see where the suggestion lands.

Who would suspect Google would have a poorly written application.. Stunning. Oh yeah, it's in "beta" as all of their apps are...

Right you are - I am so used to Google applications conflicting with other apps that I assumed (ahem) that they had written it.

on my phone, i press and hold the power/end call button twice for 5 seconds and it -restarts- (att screen) then i restart real quick.

I have an 8320 and plenty of other stuff besides Gtalk crashes for me. I usually move the scrollball around a lot in the dead app and then switch out, usually it will die on its own after a while. YOu get a little pop up stating the app died. It sucks I know, but at least you can switch out.

GoogleTalk app didnt kill my RIM 8320.. GT running on my curve pretty well..
