I don't always use the holster so I was curious if there is a shortcut for the keyboard lock like alt+something

Tapping the letter 'k' will lock it if you "home screen dialing" disabled. Read the specific faq under the 8300 Specific FAQs at http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/Main_Page

Or you can push and hold the mute key on the top and it will put the device in standby (very similar to sleep when in the holster.) Then simply tap the mute key again to "un-standby."

Is there a way for the device to LOCK AUTOMATICALLY after say, 2 minutes of unused time? That was how my sidekick used to work.

I made the bottom right soft-key my keylock button....works really, really well and extremely easy.

-Options
-Screen/Keyboard
-Right Side Convenience Key Opens:
Keyboard Lock

Now...Just push & keyboard locks - done!
