| No device detected. Please Login to Remove! I am new to BB having just bought the 8310 on AT&T. PC runing Windows XP2.
I installed desktop manager and system does not, cannot detect the BB. I called RIM. They had me download the newest version of Desktop manager. 4.2.2. Still not detecting BB. I do get a message that says RIM composite device detected. I select install hardware and it cannot find the driver. This is after installing the latest desktop manager. RIM support also had me wipe the BB clean and we reinstalled the phone software. Still same issue.
However, the phone is detected if I take the battery out. Then the Desktop manager shows the PIN of the device. But when I put the battery back in, the connection/ detection is lost and the "new hardware detected" message appears again.
RIM said BB is faulty and return. Which I have duly done. I now have a new one, not that the other one at only four days old was old, and we are in the same position.
I did not uninstall or reinstall for that matter the desktop manager since getting the newer phone.
Help! I need this to work. I bought BB because I thought my IPAQ 6515 sucked, but now I am finding I have to go back to it..... | | Offline

| Is your system seeing the BB as a storage device and not as a BB phone? I had that problem with 2 new phones earlier today for my company. This page helped: BlackBerry Search Results
Specifically: RIM Mass Storage Mode or media card is not functioning correctly.
Resolution
Perform the following:
1. Set Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode and Mass Storage Mode Support to No.
2. Remove the media card from the BlackBerry smartphone.
3. If the issue still persists, set Media Card Support to Off. | | Offline

| When I connect the phone, the systray icon shows two messages - hardware found, and Blackberry.
When I go into Device Manager, there is a yellow question mark against "RIM Composite Device".
In the USB listing in Device Manager "Blackberry Device" (or words to that effect) is not listed. However, when I pull the battery out and connect, the desktop detects the BB, and in Device Manager, there is no separate listing for "RIM Composite Device". But in the USB listing, the Blackberry is there!
I tried turning off the media card support. Tried turning it on but turning off Mass Storage Media Support with no change in effect.
I am spending way too much time on this one phone. I now have about 8 hours into this. | | Offline

I am wondering if you might have a bad USB port or a bad cable? have you tried connecting via a different port? And connecting directly to then PC, not through a hub? | | Offline

| Good point! I unplugged my Ipaq from it's USB port and uninstalled MS ActiveSync. I then inserted the BB into this USB port to no avail.
I am not using a hub, but I have used all the (5) usb ports that I have also to no avail.
Does ActiveSync interfere with the Desktop Manager?
Thank you so much for your response. | | Offline

Thank you so much for your response. | Antivirus problem maybe - or the firewall. What OS are you running on the PC and what version of DM? | | Offline

| I just checked my firewall and allowed permissions for Desktop manager. I am running Windows XP with SP2. 2 GB RAM. DM is version 4.2.2 (downloaded from Blackberry website only yesterday).
Firewall changes have not effected any changes. Virus is Symantec.
Thanks again.
PS - When I plug in BB, the system detects new hardware and asks it to be installed, which I go through the motions of only to be told each time that the software was not found and that the RIM composite device was not properly installed...RIM Composite device? It shows up in the Device Manager as other devices........

| Device Not Detected Thank you Russ8300 and Torben.
Torben - I cannot find DM4.3 the latest from the download site is 4.2.2, which I have.
Russ8300 - I am still experiencing this problem. I uninstalled DM. Oddly, my PC recognizes the BB when I first connect it. In the systray, it flags that it found new hardware, then says Blackberry. In my USB listing it shows RIM Blackberry SD USB Device (I have an SD card). It seems to read it as a storage device. I can transfer files such as music to it and am able to play music as if it is a normal storage device, using Windows Explorer by clicking and dragging files to it.
I may try to re-install DM while it is behaing in such a way. I don't know. Wish me luck. | | Offline

I guess there is some disagreement on whether this is pre-release or final but hey, if it resolves the issue, I know I didn't care. | | Offline

| Dm 4.3? Thanks Torben. I note this is on the Vodafone website. My phone is with AT&T. Does it matter since it is just a desktop client and not phone software? | | Offline

| Dm 4.3 Well,
I have downloaded and installed DM 4.3. I set my Firewall to allow DM. Device still not detected.
I am using Windows XP SP2, 1 GB RAM.
I am using Corporate Virus Protection License which I cannot configure. Could this be the culprit? I am curious to know because my HP Ipaq syncs without any issue. I see that the Firewall for my Ipaq Active Sync Service (whatever that is) has a port opened up for it with a port number assigned. Is this what the BB device needs? If yes, what should the port number be?

| This sounds exactly what I had happening while trying to use the App Loader. The AT&T documentation and online tutorial is not very clear about this, but the part you need is the software for the device itself to also be loaded to the computer. If you are having the same problem: Go here and follow the instructions to find out your BB model and OS, then click on the Operating System Downloads link, and go from there. | | Offline

| Hi Jet66. I tried this the other day did not work at the time so I unistalled it. I went over your process just to make sure I had the right software version and I do, so I reinstalled with no success once again. I am going to check my virus software and firewall again. I have corporate virus software which I cannot configure. I think this might be the culprit. Don't know for sure, but it seems like the one I have not fully, cannot fully, investigate. | | Offline

| I have the exact same problem and have wasted way too much time on this. I am using a Dell Latitude 630 and it will not detect no matter what i do. I have followed all of the instructions on the RIM site as well. Ironically I tried it on another laptop - exact same - and it detected.
I'm probably going to return my Curve | | Offline
