Default Messenger Question

Please Login to Remove!

I have a quick question and I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere.

Every time that I add a contact to my Messenger, a request is sent to the person I want to add but also my e-mail address appears on the Pending list. I can either add it (which would then have myself show up on my own Messenger contact list) or I can reject it. I can usually delete myself from the list so it's not a big deal, but it is kind of annoying.

Has this happened to anyone else? Any thoughts? Thanks.

My guess is you are sending via email (and likely have a gmail account?)

When you add a contact, be sure and add by pin:

1. Add your contact's pin to your address book.
2. Add contact from BBMessenger.
3. When the address book comes up highlight the name and hit the menu key (don't click the trackball.)
4. Select PIN.

Push the menu button and you can select Add by PIN as an option rather than by email.

Each BB has a special number assigned to it called a pin number. When you use the pin feature for BB messenger it works through the data system your BB. You can also send someone a pin message which is the equvilent of an email.

Hmm..you might be right, I have been adding most of my contacts by entering their e-mail address. I will try by PIN and see what happens. Thanks

Also, I do have a gmail account. How did you know? Does this have something to do with the whole setting up filters for gmail so my sent items in gmail don't appear on my blackberry inbox? I'm kind of in the process of figuring that out too... :p

Ha ha! This isn't my first rodeo!

A sent item right back as a received item is a gmail giveaway. Using PIN will prevent the request coming back to you. Also, getting the filter setup so that emails don't come back will also fix it.

I still recommend using PIN for Messenger requests even without the gmail issue. There are other issues that can creep up, too.

PIN messages seem to be faster as well. Emails are slower espeically if you cram them full of attachments.
