if i do a battery pull or device reset while on a UMA connection when the device comes back up and pushes back out all my service books my data stays lovercase. HOWEVER after about 10 min all data activity will work. E-mail, JiveTalk, Reg Browser, Opera Mini, MMS all work fine with either lowercase uma and edge. My 8320 has stayed in lowercase with full working data for days, jumping between wifi, and edge. Tried this on numerous routers and wifi connections, and no matter what if i forget to turn off wifi before i pull the battery it will come back up and keep showing lowercase. The only fix(s): turn off wifi, and reset; or get outside of wifi coverage and reset.
As i said not annoying since everything works, but when there is a data outage i cant tell so i end up reseting after i turn wifi off.
Notes: on .184 and just to clarify if i reset with wifi off (or outside of wifi coverage) connection will go uppercase.

I just tried this. I'm on 4.2.2.184, had UMA on. I removed the battery with UMA on and it came back up with UMA. No problem with it here.

I have the same problem with .184 and the data connection. The other day I was stuck on lowecase edge after a battery pull while powered up after I had decided to remove a program. I didn't get data back consistently until I did a register now a few times from the host routing table screen.
Very odd, but it does happen now and then and sometimes I will have lowercase uma and all data services will work just fine.

Yes. I deleted it, restarted DM 4.2, plugged in the 8300. Then I waited 5 mins with no luck and checked to make sure the vendor.xml was deleted - it was.

The firmware linked in this thread is for the 8320, not the 8300. For the 8300 use this download link.

oops...too quick on the draw (or not enough sleep). I posted in the wrong OS. In any event the file I downloaded says "8300...." so I'm sure I have the correct file, but I'll go post in the 8300 OS sticky.

A quick backup of the 3rd party apps will alleviate this potential problem:

Help with my Blackberry 8320 -
01-20-2008, 05:44 PM
I have been using this new OS for over a month now.....
and is been like 2 weeks now that i have been having some issues with mine Blackberry 8320 such as.......bluetooth have not been connecting well with advices (or should i say it havent been connecting at all) and also have been pretty slow on me.
I would like to know if this have anything to do with the OS that is malfunctioning or is there a problem with my phone. I also have been thinking about putting my old OS that came with it from T-Mobile if i cant solve the problem.
I appreciate the help.....

Bluetooth connects fine for me with this OS. I use Bluetooth GPS units and a Motorola S9.
Yeah, I'm bored too. I'm wondering if there is anything between this OS and 4.3.1.

The twilight zone? Why do I have this feeling that all the attention is being put on a 4.3.x OS release ... but its still going to be meh.
Thankfully, UMA keeps me warm at night.

Hi all,
Just upgraded from 7100 to 8320 and wanted to be able to read Chinese on the device. I have installed the latest OS from singtel everything seems to work fine except reading Chinese. I can send Chinese in email though. It seems that all Chinese characters were stripped from the email coming in the device. No black squares or question marks. I've also been reinstalled a few times with different versions of OS with same result. Any idea?
I'm on T Mobile.
Edited: Chinese is shown on emails I typed on the handheld and also on desktop when I received, but not shown on the handheld when I receive emails on the handheld.

i went back to 180 after a few days
the problem i was having with 184 is that a few times, i would try to end a call, but speaker phone came on, and wasnt able to end the call or do anything without yanking the battery. this has never happened before, so i dont think its a hardware issue. i went back to 180 and all is fine again.

Just a guess, but this smells like the BIS server at T-Mobile is stripping the Chinese characters before sending the email to your device (BIS modifies emails before they get to you to make them more handheld friendly). Give Customer Care a call and ask for the BIS department (it takes a few phone transfers in support, hang in there) and talk to one of those guys, maybe there's an option they can configure for you to stop it from stripping your emails... (again, just a theory)

I did a test by sending myself a Chinese document as an attachment. It first said the attachment server was busy and couldn't download it. Then I changed the name of the document to English and it downloaded and displayed Chinese correctly. From this I can safely assume that T Mobile is purposely stripping anything that is not English or I should say western languages. Chinese is supported since BIS version 2.1 according to RIM. So why wouldn't T Mobile support it?

...because T-Mobile doesn't (officially) support Chinese as an USA-only market, none of their official handsets ship with any Chinese firmwares. I'm not defending them (quite the opposite, they should support all C-J-K type character sets - my city is 30% asian/asian-american) just explaining the most likely cause of the problem. I re-iterate my statement above, call support and work your way up to the BIS team, see if there's a "don't strip my emails" option they can custom configure for you.

Interestingly, I just installed the SingTel 184 and was able to receive Chinese email. I tested it by send an email from my Gmail account, with Traditional Chinese characters in the subject and in the body. I received and read it without problem on the handheld.
(And yes, I'm also with T-mobile.)

I'm using BIS with Tmobile US. Looks like I can get Chinese working in IE and Email, and possibly IM (not tested yet as I do not subscribe to text messaging). I could not display Chinese in Media Player, Mobipocket and some other 3rd player softwares.

Yes upgrade. You can get it from here: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...e-telecom.html
It doesn't matter. Any currently released 8320 software will work on your 8320. Follow the instructions in the provided link.

New Multilanguage version of this OS finally released, started a new thread here:

Good for those of us wanting English + another (non-C/J/K) language, such as Spanish in my case.
