I have recently signed up for blackberry and cannot get the device to connect to blackberry "servers". it keeps showing the EDGE in LOWER CASE

Couple questions:

1. Have you only tried to get a signal from one location, can you actually go near a tower (like near an AT&T corporate store, they often have towers/repeaters at them)?

2. While powered ON, pull the battery, replace and reboot the BB.

3. Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan from AT&T?

4. Does it show "Data Connection Refused" at the top of the screen?

I have the phone working except the EDGE signal is shown in lower case instead of UPPER CASE so it cannot register onto the network to allow the blackberry system work. i have talked with my carrier and they have said i am signed up and should be getting all my info
The device i have is unlocked and i am in the Bahamas
