Default Gmail Issue: Duplicate Emails

Please Login to Remove!

Ever since I went onto the AT&T BIS web page yesterday and re-sent the service books to my phone (I had an issue with recieving email on Gmail)...I have been getting double emails each time I recieve one. In fact, the second one (duplicate) hits approximately 6-15 minutes after the first one (original) one does.

What's going on? How do I correct this?

Assuming you have the filters set for the known gmail duplicate issue (HOW-TO: Prevent G-mail "Sent Items" from being sent to your handheld., do you suppose you have some duplicate service book entries? Look at your service books and see if you have duplicates. Delete one or both, and resend if you need.

Options > Advanced > Service Books.

I deleted all service books...and resent them. Got back my Gmail & BB.net icons right away, but had to do a battery pull reset to get my other POP3 account icon to show up...weird. At any rate...I'll wait and see if I get "twins" next time I get an email on my Gmail account or not.

It has to do with a Gmail setting. Because I get the same thing. They are not duplicates in the sense that you get two xerox emails. GMail has this function (that you normally don't see on when you check your account on a computer) where it creates back up copies of all your emails that you send and receive in a hidden archive. I'm not sure where in the process or why the Blackberry-Gmail link decides that you need the copy to be POPed up onto your Blackberry

I've been getting the same thing on my Curve but I've been to lazy to go to Gmail and turn it off (if it can be turned off).

but that is where you would fix this.

I actually had a couple of "twin" emails come in even after I deleted the old service books and resent the new ones...

...so I went to my Gmail page on my PC, and had all my Gmail emails forwarded to my "@att.blackberry.net" email address...and, voila!! I now have "push" Gmail email...and no more duplicate emails, at least on that address.

So far, it's a good workaround anyway.

there is no reason to forward you gmail to your blackberry address. Gmail has instant push to the BB. You don't even need a blackberry address, it will collect spam easily and there is NO way to filter it all out.

If you get the duplicate gmail problem, there is an entire FAQ about how to stop it... HOW-TO: Prevent G-mail "Sent Items" from being sent to your handheld.

Good luck.

but...don't gmail filter out all the Spam before it gets to the inbox-(yahoo and gmail are great for this by the way)-or does the forwarding function forwards everything to the BB?

I believe Gmail's spam filter does it's job before forwarding to my address, as I have collected quite a few spam emails tonight...and none have made it onto my BlackBerry account.

And, hey JSanders...not to say that you don't know (you have more experience than I), but my Gmail account never ever pushed my email as fast as they are coming now via the forwarding. I mean...it seemed like it was only accessing every 15-minutes or so. Now, an Gmail email hits my BlackBerry account quite a while sooner than the same email shows up on my Gmail account. Did I simply miss a setting on my Gmail account that would have made it "push"...?

ok, real slow now. If you forward Gmail to your blackberry address, your gmail WILL be filtered from spam, very nicely I might add. Gmail does a great job at filtering spam.

So it is forwarded to your blackberry address. Blackberry addresses are notorious for spam (bots run the gamut creating addresses, it hits a correct one and voila! spam everywhere. It starts slow. I had had issue on my TMo.blackberry.net address. You can do some slight filtering at the BIS site, but not much.

so, delmarco, to review:

gmail (spam filtered) > @blackberry.net (NOT spam filtered) > your BB.

but it really doesn't matter, if you start getting spam from the Blackberry address, you can undo it, and reset it direct to your BB. No biggie.

Gmail has instant push to BB. Maybe your setup was not correct, I don't know. But it is. There is some delay in the delete reconciliation, but it works.

And if you like it the way you have, that is fine. It is no biggie.

Well, I'm certainly no expert...that's the reason I'm here and ask questions. No need to be condescending..."ok, real slow now...".

I really just want my Gmail account to push as fast as it is now (forwarded to my BB account)...without spam, and without sending me duplicate emails of each one I recieve. I never had that problem with my previous 8300...and I don't know how my Gmail setup is any different now than it was then. If there is an optimum way to setup Gmail for the BlackBerry...I would certainly like to know.

Sorry, that was not intended towards you, davis. I was responding to the other.

I don't know why your gmail does not push instantly, since it did before. I suggest deleting all gmail accounts and reinstalling in your BIS setup. There is not a setting in gmail to make it push instantly or slow. The duplicate gmail issue is mentioned rampantly on this forum everyday, and in the 2nd post in this thread, for the solution.

No worries!!

So, I deleted my Gmail account on the AT&T BIS webpage. Then I set it back up again...also setting up a filter for "No Sent Messages" like the FAQ tutorial instructed.

To test the "push" speed...I then, sent myself a TEST email from another email account I have (also on the 8310) to my Gmail account. And...it hit instantly on my BB account (Gmail forwarded to it), but didn't hit my Gmail account for several minutes.

What am I doing wrong?
