Hate my 8300 now that Wifi and GPS is available. I am in a contract with AT&T, so I am trying to find a way to get the 8310 other than paying full list $450.

Have you called AT&T or stopped by a local store? You may be able to work something out with them. Never hurts to try.

How much longer until your contract is up? Are WiFi and GPS really that important to you? That just seems like a bit of an extreme messure IMO. However, Wifi and GPS are very nice features, I don't see myself using them enough to go through that hassle.

Yes, due to traveling alot...I cant tell you how many times I wish I had it. Wifi not so much but the GPS is a must. I do plan to go to the store, but presently the website shows I am not able to upgrade until 6/08.

Just in case you don't realize it... the 8310 does NOT have WiFi.
The only difference between 8300 and 8310 is the GPS feature.

If you're okay with getting a new phone number, then sure, paying the ETF and then signing up for a new account would save you a couple hundred dollars.

Or simply getting a separate GPS unit like a garmin, magellan, tom-tom, etc.

At least, no monthly fees. You can update the maps as necessary.

Above is practical of course if you travel in your car. Not so practical if you need it if you travel by plane. Don't want to lug that around.

or a gps puck. connect that to ur 8300 over bluetooth.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but I have the 8310 and LOVE it, but I'd rather have the 8320 with the WiFi then GPS. Anyway I can run the t-mo 8320 on AT&T?

That would definitely work out. I don't consider that an extreme measure either, because you're saving some money with very little work.

However these are some factors you may want to look into...

If you get the right Rep, you will be able to do an early upgrade. As a matter of fact, just call customer service and see if they can notate your account to give you an early upgrade. The store has to honor it.

If you want to be sneaky, if you have any other att phone, momentarily put it on and take the blackberry feature off. Then call in customer service and tell them you want to upgrade to a blackberry. Tell them they should give you an upgrade since you will be increasing revenue for ATT...it might work.

An early upgrade can definitely be possible if you know what you are doing.

If you want to cancel and do the new activation, check how much the ETF is. They are pro-rated now so they could be less. If you want to keep your number, just port it to Verizon, then port back to ATT.

There is an exceptional 1 year upgrade where you get 75.00 off the retail price...up to you though.

I say go for the 2-year upgrade...if you try hard enough you can get it.

If your going through all that work, at this point your prob better off selling your 8300 curve on ebay, or wherever. Get as much money as you can for it.

Then go on either ebay or here, and buy a 8310.

I think that works a lot better. Even if you end up $200 out of pocket, still beats the other way.

Thanks for the info, especially the part about the 8310 not having wifi, I think I just assumed that it did. Cant believe they havent gotten all these options inside this phone yet. May sit this one out for a little bit and see what happens closer to the holidays. Thanks again for the input!

i had been having some issues w my 8300's like dust under the screen in excessive amounts and the memory dump issue. I had exchanged my unit twice. This time, I called at&t and asked the guy if there was anything else avail besides a 3rd refurb 8300 and he offered a brand new 8310 instead. just got it yesterday under a simple warranty exchange process, and i am much happier. give it a try if you have had previous exhanges, its at least worth a shot!

I am having the same darn memory issue....It's a memory leak...Something to with a software issue....I am wondering if I can install the 8310 software on my 8300...? not sure what the differences are...If it's only software I see no reason why...But hardware is a different story...any advice on that would be great

I don't want to RMA it as everytime I do the RMA'd device is worse than the orginal device.....I can live with having to pull my baterry out once every 2 days to avoid the problem if I have too.....

That all being Rogers is being very good about dealing my bad luck.....
