From searching around I see that we cannot get HTML messages. That's fine with me, but what about a plain-text message that has a link in it. Is it not possible to click on that link in the message and have the browser open up? Or is there a workaround? (Besides having it sent to JiveTalk.) I'm guessing that this is connected with the HTML issue but it's a major problem for me not to be able to do this as I get numerous links in messages I need to look at.

You cannot click on links that are spelled out in text-only emails. You can copy and paste into your browser.

Using a third party HTML email viewer such as BBSmart of Empower email will make your links clickable.

Thanks. That kind of stinks. I'm leery of filling up my BB with 3rd-party software just yet (except JiveTalk which I love) but if it becomes a problem I will do that.

Um, whoa. Weird. I just went back to the original message and suddenly the links are clickable. I'm really not this much of a noob but how the heck did that happen? Same message, same folder, no difference whatsoever.

While messages may not appear to have live links since the text is uber-plain, often you can click on them. Also, attachments are often sort of buried at the bottom and don't overtly appear to be links...

Still, just click on a portion of them and they usually work.

I find this to make bb a lame interface since, as a design professional, I have to access files constantly through email as well...

I tried BB Smart and my take is this: the 3rd party apps seem mostly not ready for primetime. I am reminded of why I got the bb in the first place: it is more robust, responsive and reliable. The plain text is a blessing, really. It loads very quickly. BBSmart does not. Once it tries to alter the bb infrastructure, every single email becomes a Treo-like nightmare. I say don't do it.

What is SORELY missing? How about some kind of user controls that just change a color of a link, similar to what you can do in Firefox? At least that way, at least you know you have a link in front of you. I think BB is suffering some growing pains here and is holding itself back from being the great utility it could be...

Or, if anyone knows how to activate this option, please DO tell.

I swear, I know this will sound crazy, but the links really were not there the first time. I tried and tried to click them or open a contextual menu and no luck. Only when I went back into the message a little later were they there. In subsequent email tests, the links work. No idea what I did; I didn't change a single option during that time.

Originally no, they just looked like text on the screen. Now they have little dotted lines under them making it clear that they are links.

Mine doesn't even have that...

There must be settings for this stuff somewhere?

I wasn't too happy with BBSmart because it slows everything down. All I really want is to keep the plain text (very fast) emails but have the links appear to be links (just so I know they exist and can quickly and easily click on them).

If that is not really an option, fine. It is just something I am trying to figure out how to enable...
