Default Curve almost perfect except text IDs!!!

Please Login to Remove!

This might be easy for the vets on here but one thing is keeping me from saying that my Blackberry is perfect...
Im used to my ringer ids playing not only for the phone calls but on the personal text messages from that exact contact...
This is my last shot, Ive visited sites, read the manual, messed with my phone so does anyone know how to set a caller tune for a contact that will play when they call me AND ALSO when they text me, I cant stand having one ringtone for every message I receive! PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm not sure if that is possible. I think not.

Also, that would annoy the hell out of me. Just me though.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

It can be done, it is a pain, do a search for Profiles and you will get what you need. I use it for just a few select people.

Most of the "Vets" here do not use text messaging, they use email.

Default heres what I do...

I did this with my pearl and now again with my 8320.

In the sound profiles menu I created a "New Exception",and added the few select people from my address book in the "From" field. You can assign them a certain profile and check the "custom phone tune" so you know they're calling.

I suppose you can also make a new profile, so you can assign them a certain text message notification.

I have different exceptions for my family members, friends, and co-workers, so this is what works for me.

Hope this helps!

The words "BlackBerry Extraordinaire" are added by the forum software and I have no control over it.

Excuse me for intruding on this "newbie" thread!

I agree with Greg here as well. However, I do see the need for text messaging as there are people out there without email capable phones.

I was just thinking if this newbie with only two posts could come up with such a smart a$$ reply, what he will be like after a few hundred posts! I forget that the Blackberry users have some new members now and some have a little way to go before growing up!

His comments (Awww boo hoo my bad maybe one day when im a "BlackBerry Extraordinaire" i'll email and never text too so I can be cool like you. Pssh) remind me of a teenager for sure!

I see your point, His comment was definitly out of line IMO. It is a small pet peeve of mine when someone (especially new) asks a question or wants advice and then recieves an answer they don't like and make comments like the one aforementioned. Not a good way to start off here in the forums. Especially due to this forum being a GREAT tool and source of information

Yep. I do tons of emailing, but still text quite a bit when I need to send messages to my sister or niece or someone who doesn't have a blackberry or email capable phone. And vice-versa - they text me because they can't email.

not to throw fuel to the fire here, but greggebhardt, by vets you mean, *ahem* older people or long time blackberry users?

Because you do read article after article stating the obvious, that the sidekick generations DO text more than...old people lol...*for lack of a better word*. And if thats what you meant than it is true.

I have had a BlackBerry for about 5 years, on average I send about 300 emails a month and last month I sent 7,481 text messages. Wow I need a life.

That would be over 10 messages an hour, 24 hours a day for 30 days!

WOW!

Well Jenn,

Do not forget that a "vet" could be someone who has left the miltary! Step out of the box and use your imagination!

You said "And if thats what you meant than it is true."

Why thanks!

I actually used the word "vet" as a term of respect like someone who say is labeled "Blackberry Extraordinaire" and has a crap load of posts and is known around here....
Its not that I didnt like the reply, maybe its my bad for assuming but in my defense it was like 3 am and i was tired and Extraordinaire made it sound like I was outa place just bc i text & like only cool people that email need to post so then i got defensive, a forum is a forum i dont walk around my personal life feeling bothered for something someone said ona forum, if anyone else does thats sad but not me.
And dont worry i signed up yesterday cuz i needed that one bit of advice, i got my answer, i got it working, im happy, i didnt sign up to frequent the site unless i need questions asked and im sure thats all i'll visit the site for cuz im in no position to answer anyones questions haha cuz i am new and barely got me new phone.
Just wanted someone to answer what I asked them.
Thanks to the genuine people that just straight out answered my question.
